We are seeking to appoint a Research Associate with a background in animal behaviour/welfare science to support a Wild Animal Initiative funded project. The aim of the project is to develop automated equipment to study welfare in wild squirrels, and it will involve conducting fieldwork – including deploying equipment to collect behavioural data and behavioural observations – with wild squirrels at the University of Exeter campus. The start date will be 5th January 2026, and there is funding in place for the position until 30th April 2027.
What will you be doing?
You will be responsible for the day-to-day organisation of practical work on the project, including assisting with the development of equipment, conducting data collection, data collation and analysis, and writing and completing academic papers on the results of the research conducted. You will work closely with the grant holders and collaborators on the project.
You should apply if
You should apply if you have previous experience conducting animal behaviour or animal welfare research (especially involving experimental fieldwork with wild mammals), an understanding of scientific methods, an ability to collect, collate and store data accurately, and good organisation and communication skills.
