Avionic Systems Engineer Location: Cambridge Duration: 6 months initial, 2 years project span Rate: £60-70 ph Umbrella Technical competencies to include: • Expertise in electrical testing, validation, and troubleshooting. • Proficiency in relevant simulation and modelling tools focused on electrical integration challenges. Including or equivalent to IBM Engineering Lifecycle Management tools [DOORS NEXT, Workflow and Test management and Rhapsody], MATLAB, Simulink and Simscape • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, specifically in the context of electrical systems Key Tasks include: • System level Development and integration • Be a guiding force in the development of hardware and interconnect aspects of a new electronic control system. Understand and capture interfacing requirements and generate hardware specifications to satisfy those needs. Assist in creating a Hardware in the Loop test environment to accelerate the development of the early TRL control system. Compile and undertake development and acceptance level testing of new control systems. Conduct fault finding activities to support system development • Electrical interconnect Integration • Create Electrical Schematics and Interface Control Documents, by capturing requirements from a cross-discipline team taking EMI/EMC design mitigations into consideration. Work and communicate with test rig suppliers to ensure electrical designs are built correctly and changes and queries are addressed with minimal delays. • Test rig specification and development • Using a sound knowledge of system testing, assist in the specification and development of test cell systems, such as Data Acquisition, and Power Distribution for a sub-contractor to supply. A strong understanding of industrial control and safety practices is desirable. Responsibilities include: Specialised Electrical Integration Expertise: • Specialise in electrical integration methodologies, ensuring efficient incorporation of control systems into the electrical architecture. Develop innovative solutions for electrical integration challenges, emphasizing efficiency, reliability, and safety. Avionics System Design and Development: • Support/lead the design and development of fuel control systems for a full scale development rig, focusing on electrical integration aspects such as power distribution, signal integrity, and electromagnetic compatibility. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate avionics systems within the aircrafts electrical framework, ensuring adaptability and optimal functionality. Collaborative Engineering and Electrical Coordination: • Collaborate closely with avionics and electrical engineering teams, stakeholders, and external partners to gather input, assess feasibility, and refine avionics system designs from an electrical integration perspective. Lead/participate in workshops and design reviews focused on electrical design, ensuring alignment with project objectives and stakeholder expectation. Electrical Testing and Validation: • Generate and conduct comprehensive electrical testing procedures to validate avionics system performance, emphasizing signal integrity, power efficiency, and electromagnetic interference. Collaborate closely with testing teams to identify and address electrical integration challenges, ensuring optimal functionality and safety. Technical Documentation and Electrical Schematics: • Prepare technical documentation, including detailed electrical schematics and interface documentation. Ensure comprehensive documentation of electrical integration processes, facilitating effective communication and collaboration with team members and stakeholders. Regulatory Compliance and Standards Development: • Ensure avionics systems meet industry regulations, safety standards, and stringent electrical integration requirements. Collaborate with regulatory authorities to obtain necessary certifications for avionics systems, ensuring adherence to industry-leading electrical standard. Research and Innovation in Electrical Integration: • Stay updated with emerging electrical integration technologies, industry trends, and best practices. Explore and recommend innovative electrical integration solutions, enhancing avionics system performance, electrical efficiency, and safety. Knowledge Management: • Facilitate knowledge retention and dissemination strategies. Capture, organize, and preserve knowledge, insights, and best practices related to the hydrogen fuel system. Risk Management: • Perform effective risk management activities to identify potential risks, opportunities, or vulnerabilities in the fuel systems design or operation. Develop strategies to mitigate identified risks. Continuous Improvement: • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the efficiency, performance, and reliability of the fuel system architecture.
