Social Media Officer, Gates Cambridge Trust

About Us:
The Gates Cambridge mission is to build a global network of future leaders committed to improving the lives of others. We achieve this mission by selecting outstanding scholars from countries outside the UK and providing them with full-cost scholarships to pursue postgraduate degrees in any subject available at the University of Cambridge.
The Trust and Scholarship will be 25 in 2025, and we want to use this important milestone to celebrate the impact the scholarships have had for our scholars, as well as facilitating work that has had a positive contribution on the lives of others. We are also looking forward to what more can be achieved in the Scholarship’s future.
We are seeking a creative and strategic Social Media Officer to help elevate our presence across key social media platforms: Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, X (formerly Twitter) and Blue Sky, with a particular focus on creating social media campaigns for our 25th Anniversary in 2025.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Content Creation: Develop, curate, and schedule engaging and on-brand content across Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, X and Blue Sky.
2. Campaign Development: Design and execute social media campaigns to support our initiatives, events, and other activities.
3. Community Engagement: Interact with our online community by responding to comments, messages, and engaging with followers to build and nurture relationships.
4. Analytics and Reporting: Monitor, analyse, and report on social media performance metrics. Use insights to refine strategies and improve engagement.
5. Trend Monitoring: Stay up-to-date with the latest social media trends, platform updates, and best practices to ensure our strategies remain current and effective.
6. Collaboration: Support the collaborative culture of the Trust, by working closely with the Trust Staff, Scholars and other departments at appropriate within Collegiate Cambridge to align social media activities with the Trust vision for the 25th Anniversary and its broader strategic aims.
7. Management of accounts: Monitor activity on social media accounts, including for any opportunities or issues. Identify issues and potential issues promptly escalate them to the appropriate member of staff.
8. Brand Advocacy: Ensure all social media content reflects the Gates Cambridge Trust’s values, mission, and tone of voice.
9. Other duties: There may be occasions when you are asked to participate with the successful organisation and delivery of events as part of the 25th Anniversary campaign.
Minimum Requirements:
1. Educational Background: A first degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant area, or experience in a similar role.
2. Excellent content creation skills, including photography, and basic video shooting and editing skills using a smartphone; copywriting for specific channels, and basic design work.
3. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to craft compelling narratives and engage diverse audiences.
4. A creative mindset with the ability to generate innovative ideas for content and campaigns.
5. Substantial experience in using social media to achieve strategic objectives.
6. Ability to work flexibly and creatively, balancing competing demands across multi-activity campaigns.
7. Ability to build effective working relationships and manage a wide range of contacts to good effect.
8. Proficiency in social media management tools and analytics platforms.
9. Ability to analyze social media metrics and translate them into actionable strategies.
10. Proven experience in managing social media platforms for a brand, preferably in the non-profit or charitable sector.
11. Demonstrable understanding of brand and ability to create content in line with the ‘voice of the brand’.
12. Commitment to achieving and realising the Trust’s vision and values across social media channels.
13. Ability to use specialist film and photography equipment, including editing software.
14. Graphic design or illustration experience.
15. Experience of working in Higher Education, not-for-profit or charitable sector.
