South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw (SYB) Pathology is on a transformational journey that will fully integrate our existing pathology services, providing the best possible service for patients and clinicians across the Integrated Care System. We are searching for a Biomedical Scientist to join our team in the Haematology laboratories at STH primarily based at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital site.
Applicants must possess an accredited degree in Biomedical Sciences, have relevant experience in Haematology, and hold current registration with the HCPC (Band 5/Band 6 BMS). We will also consider applicants without specialist portfolio if no suitable band 6 level applications are received. In these circumstances, we would appoint to AFC band 5, or an annex of the band 5 pay scale for applicants who are imminently about to obtain HCPC registration or Trainee BMS. The appointee will join in the 24/7 OOH service provision.
Applicants must be aware that this post is predominantly secondment cover. This post is permanent; however, the successful candidate will be appointed with the understanding that they may be re-located to any SYBP site once/ if the substantive postholder returns from their secondment.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will act as an HCPC-registered Biomedical Scientist providing scientific services to patients as an aid to clinical diagnosis. The successful candidate will be required to participate on the 24/7 out of hours rota and undertake a wide range of complex analytical procedures, performing a range of manual, semi-automated and automated tests using scientific knowledge and experience to comment upon and validate results in line with ISO 15189. The post holder will:
1. Be responsible for the production of accurate and timely Laboratory investigations.
2. Assist in maintaining high scientific and technical standards.
3. Adhere to all Trust and Departmental Policies.
4. Assist in planned Research and Development
5. Promote and maintain a high standard of relevant education and training.
6. Stimulate and take part in scientific and technical research and development (Band 6)
The successful applicant, following appropriate training, will participate in the 24/7 service provision on either site, as well as contributing to the extended core working as defined in AfC terms.

Essential
7. (Band 5 & 6) BSc in Biomedical Sciences or other IBMS accredited degree
8. (Band 5 & 6) Registered with HCPC as a Biomedical Scientist
9. (Band 6) Specialist Portfolio or old HPC Logbook- or evidence of significant post registration experience.

10. Evidence of continued CPD including relevant courses with regards to H&S, leadership, quality or training
