Health & Safety Manager
Competitive salary, £4,800 Car allowance or £4,300 cash equivalent, plus healthcare, 18% annual bonus potential with 27.5 days annual leave, plus bank holidays, increasing to 30 days after 10 years’ service and a company pension scheme with highly competitive contribution rates.

Location: This role will be working with and as part of the wider national safety team. The team of Safety Advisors you will be managing will be based in the south of the country and although most of the team management role can be undertaken remotely you will be required to travel at short notice on occasion in line with business needs.

About the role
Reporting director into the Head of Safety Field Operations your key responsibilities as H&S Manger are:
* Leadership: Develop, coach, and lead a team of 12 H&S Advisors to effectively minimize risk exposure and meet legislative requirements.
* Programme Management: Plan and deliver H&S assurance programmes, working closely with the Governance & Assurance team to report risks and influence decision-making.
* Compliance: Deploy resources for H&S audits and spot checks, ensuring compliance and integrity in closing actions.
* Investigation Management: Oversee adherence to legal processes in serious and fatal investigations, providing expert advice and ensuring protocols are followed.
* Stakeholder Engagement: Represent RMG with regulatory authorities and Union H&S Representatives, and partner with senior operational leaders to embed H&S into business plans.
* Data Interpretation: Analyse performance data to identify areas for improvement and share insights with leaders.
* Committee Representation: Represent RMG at statutory H&S Committees, Project Working Groups, and Crisis Management Teams.
About You
We are looking for a candidate with the following skills, experience, and industry qualifications:
* Proven leadership of high-performing teams.
* Strong interpersonal, influencing, and communication skills.
* Effective time management and ability to balance competing priorities.
* Expertise in risk management, inspection, audit, and proactive/reactive measurement techniques.
* Significant experience in a senior H&S management role in a large complex organisation.
* Practical experience in building H&S and environmental cultures.
* Strong knowledge of safety and environmental legislation.
* Proficient understanding of behavioural-based safety approaches.
* Effective techniques for employee communications and engagement.
Qualifications:
* Level 6 Occupational Health and Safety Practitioner qualification such as NEBOSH Diploma or holder of NEBOSH Certificate or equivalent and actively working towards.
* Certified member of IOSH or equivalent related professional body or imminently working towards.
