Job overview
We are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic principal clinical psychologist to join our team of Paediatric Clinical Psychologists and Psychiatrists based at the Children's Hospital in Oxford. The post is based at the John Radcliffe Hospital Neonatal Unit and has strong links with psychologists working across the region as well as those based in Oxford. This is a fixed term post to cover maternity leave. Applications for flexible or part-time working will be welcomed.
Main duties of the job
The post-holder will work systemically, supporting the neonatal MDT to deliver psychologically informed care to babies and their families, as well as providing targeted, specialist psychological input to families on the neonatal unit, and during their transition home (or to another inpatient setting). They will liaise closely with maternity and community-based services to ensure continuity of care along the patient pathway. An important part of the role will be to provide training, debriefs, consultation, and support to neonatal colleagues.
Person specification
Education/Qualification/Training
* Doctorate in Clinical Psychology or statement of equivalence
* Eligible for chartered clinical psychology status
* Additional specialist therapy training
* Training in Clinical Supervision
Experience
* To demonstrate significant post-qualification experience as a clinical psychologist
* Specific experience of work with families experiencing a range of conditions related to prematurity to include experience of individual therapy, work with families and staff support
* Experience of clinical work within an acute hospital or paediatric setting
* Experience of managing and working with risk in a mental health context
* Further post-training supervision and clinical practice, with a very high degree of autonomy in keeping with the job requirements
* Additional specialist training and supervised practice, particularly though not restricted to trauma and attachment focused interventions
* Experience of working with adults who have experienced or are experiencing trauma and loss
Knowledge and Skills
* Demonstrated ability to work with children and young people
* Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team respecting the views of others while focusing on holding the psychological needs of children and families as a key component of the work of the team.
* Ability to work with highly distressed adults, adolescents and family members
* Experience in individual therapy, work with families and group work
* Ability to undertake clinical and service related research or audit consistent with the needs of the department and in keeping with the job requirements
* Ability to administer, score and report on psychometric measures
* Competence in CBT and other psychotherapies
* Teaching and training skills
