The Opportunity:
We are excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for a Technical Manager to join our team. This pivotal role will oversee and enhance the Quality Management System (QMS) to ensure compliance with all relevant standards, including BRC, and foster continuous improvement in quality, safety, and operational efficiency. The position demands proactive leadership in maintaining technical excellence, fostering a strong quality culture, and managing technical crises to safeguard business interests.
Position: Full Time, Permanent.
Working Pattern: Monday to Friday from 07:30 - 16:30, including a one hour lunch break.
Location: Manchester (Onsite)
Reporting to: Technical and Compliance Director
Key Responsibilities:
* Manage and enhance the Quality Management System (QMS) to ensure compliance and operational efficiency.
* Maintain BRC accreditation and lead external audits and site visits.
* Collaborate with senior management to ensure a strong leadership presence on-site.
* Oversee HACCP compliance and continuous improvement of food safety and CCP controls.
* Develop and maintain TACCP/VACCP plans and processes.
* Investigate process deviations, manage Non-Conformances, and resolve quality incidents.
* Conduct supplier audits and monitor departmental KPIs to drive improvements.
* Communicate technical policies and foster a strong quality culture across teams.
* Support and lead technical and production staff through effective leadership, training, and development.
* Manage technical crises to minimize business impact.
* Stay updated on legislation and implement changes as needed.
* Contribute to the business's technical strategy and manage the technical function’s budget.
* Ensure compliance with Retailer Food Manufacturing Standards.
* Manage the hygiene team to maintain regulatory and company cleaning standards.
Who Are We Looking For?
* Degree qualification in Food Science/Technology discipline
* Proven track record working in quality/technical management within FMCG high risk categories.
* Min. of four years of experience in a Technical Manager role.
* UK Retailer experience is essential
* Excellent working knowledge of BRC, HACCP, TACCP, VACCP & multiple retailer requirements
* Experience with leading BRC and 3rd party audits.
* Exceptional supplier management and communication skills.
* A strong understanding of HACCP Level 3 principles.
* Effective communication and influencing skills. Ability to build effective relationships with key stakeholders.
