About the job Job summary The Ministry of Defence employs over 50,000 Civil Servants. Within that, the Army Top Level Budget (TLB) employs around 7,000 MOD Civil Servants located at over 300 locations. HQ Combat Manoeuvre Centre (CMC) is the parent organisation of the Combined Arms Manoeuvre School, Armoured Fighting Vehicle School, Royal Armour Corps Training Regiment, The Infantry Battle School, The Land Special Operations Training School, and the Small Arms School Corp and these groups are often the originators of content as well users of the publications along with the wider Army. The role and function of the Combat Publications group is to deliver leadership, expertise, and governance of Army Combat Doctrine and safe training in written directives ranging from e-books and pamphlets to interactive publications, ranging from safety training to tactics and battlefield basics. The skill of this function is to take at times complex information and articulate it into a format that educates a wide range of users. The group also looks to innovate and develop methods of written directive to meet soldiers modern day information processing and cognitive preferences. Combat Doctrine focuses on Close (short range), Mounted (vehicles) and Dismounted (on foot) publications and training that includes Tactics, Techniques and Procedures, Technical and Training Safety amongst other things. The guidance and policy these publications provide is key to the Army delivering its outputs consistently and safely. Job description As a Media Editor you will function as multimedia subject matter expert, advising the Team Leader and Authors on all technical aspects of media production. You will work with Doctrine subject matter experts to produce clear, accurate and formatted text, illustration, models, photos and where suitable video, audio, and animations for Army eBooks and interactive publications. This doctrine can range from safety training to tactics and battlefield basics. You will work alongside Combat Manoeuvre Centre Training Development to design and deliver online doctrine and training that meets soldiers changing requirements and supports diverse learning preferences. Key responsibilities include: Working with the Combat Author, analyse and advise on multimedia solutions to support Combat Doctrine creation and amendments. Design and produce high quality publications, eBooks, and training by: Delivering creative design and visual concepts Delivering specialist illustration including technical, pictorial, and modelling Delivering other multimedia assets including animations, video, and photography Formatting & standardising all publications in line with policy Project manage work and engage with stakeholders to progress and develop work Assure content for accuracy Ensure content complies with Army Branding Policy Represent the Combat Publications Team Leader at meetings when required Training will be provided on the Adobe suite for the successful candidate to develop the skills required for the post. Person specification Essential Project Management - This post requires organisational and planning skills. You will need to manage resources and your own time effectively so being structured and organised is necessary to balance the varying demands of the post. Communication - You need to be a good verbal and written communicator, you will need to demonstrate the ability to lead and collaborate with stakeholders and your team to deliver an output. This will involve building relationships with individuals at both junior and senior grades. IT literacy - This post requires good IT skills and the ability to quickly learn new applications. You will use a multitude of applications predominantly Microsoft Office 365 of which you will need to be proficient at using. Some experience using the Adobe Creative Suite is required, however further training will be provided to the successful applicant. The successful applicant will also need a keen eye for detail.
