Join to apply for the Head of Content role at SALT.agency
SALT.agency is seeking an experienced and driven Head of Content to join our leadership team and help shape the future of our growing business. In this exciting role, you’ll define and lead the content strategy for high-value clients—many of whom operate in technology-driven industries—and manage a talented in-house content team (as well as external contractors when required). You’ll also directly contribute to business growth and innovation through new business proposals and high-quality content deliverables.
FULL JOB DESCRIPTION
As the Head of Content, you’ll be responsible for building and leading a best-in-class content team that serves the needs of SALT’s clients and the agency itself. You will establish, evolve, and maintain a content marketing programme that creates a predictable, efficient, and scalable engine for content ideation, development, and execution. Our content programmes will drive organic growth and tell the SALT story across multiple content types—from blog posts and webinars to social media, technical white papers, landing pages, and more. You will also develop strategies for, and help deliver, outstanding content for our clients—particularly in the tech sector, where sophisticated audience needs and complex subject matter are common. This role requires cross-functional collaboration, action-oriented communication, and the ability to secure new business by gaining stakeholder buy-in.
What you'll do:
1. Audience and Market Mapping: Research and understand the overall market opportunity and the target audiences for various activities. Build personas to help direct conversations and aid clearer communication with each audience.
2. Competitor Research: Identify active players in a particular industry and highlight strengths, weaknesses, threats, and opportunities—for clients and for SALT.
3. Messaging: Write messaging documentation that addresses overall business goals, target personas, and competitive advantages, ensuring consistency across all communications.
4. Objective Mapping: Develop content strategies, objectives, and tactics to serve audiences across multiple channels. Align these activities with both client and SALT business objectives.
5. Goal Setting: Create challenging yet attainable goals aligned with broader business and department targets—at both a team and individual level.
6. Data Analysis: Gather and analyse data to inform decisions at a programme level. Ideate, test, and refine hypotheses to improve processes, strategies, and content performance.
7. Trends Research: Stay informed on market, audience, and industry trends—particularly within technology verticals—to ensure content remains fresh, relevant, and impactful.
8. Profitability and Compensation: Regularly evaluate team profitability, efficiency, and compensation to ensure the success of individuals, the team, and the agency.
9. Discovery & New Business: Participate in scoping and discovery sessions with potential new clients. Identify opportunities for additional content services. Develop proposals that align with client goals and SALT’s capabilities.
10. Contract Evaluation: Ensure scopes are both profitable for the agency and feasible for the team (in terms of workload, expertise, and scheduling). Address any potential gaps or risks proactively.
11. Client Service & Account Management: Support client delivery managers and content team members to deliver high-impact content. Proactively communicate with clients, sharing regular progress updates and gathering feedback to maintain high satisfaction levels.
12. Campaign Strategy Development: Devise and oversee comprehensive content strategies, including editorial calendars, brand storytelling, and SEO-optimised pieces that meet client objectives.
