Mechanical Estimator Role - Derby
My client established themselves in the early 1900s and remains a family-run Mechanical Services business operating predominantly in the Design & Build sector of the Building Services Industry.
They undertake diverse projects covering various industry sectors: Health, Education, Prisons, Retail, and general Commercial Buildings, predominantly in and around the Midlands but occasionally further afield.
Typical mechanical contract size generally ranges from circa £100k up to £5m.
Qualifications Required
1. BTEC Building Services ONC / HNC
2. Minimum 5 GCSE passes - Maths is a mandatory requirement
3. Excel / Estimating Software
4. MS 365 Knowledge
THE JOB - Mechanical Estimator
8am - 5pm, Monday to Friday with a 1hr lunch break.
Role & Responsibilities
1. Attend sites as and when required to survey works for initial costing purposes.
2. Ability to use Excel is a must as our Estimating package is centred around an in-house developed Excel system, although other software packages may be considered moving forward.
3. Send out TQ's to Main Contractors / Clients and monitor responses for incorporation into tenders where ambiguities fall between the drawings and specifications provided.
4. Send out enquiries to suppliers & subcontractors for pricing purposes.
5. Take off services from drawings and provided equipment schedules where pre-designed and send out to the supply chain in the market for pricing.
6. Populate costing sheets Excel based or similar software package including prelims, commissioning, travel, transport or lodging allowances as required.
7. A knowledge / understanding of SBEM, Thermal Models, SAP, BRUKL, and BREEAM targets to facilitate pulling tenders together is a pre-requisite; however, not the actual software use.
8. Internal meetings with the Senior Management for commercial settlement of bids and compliance checks prior to tender submission.
9. Clear, precise and articulate Tender letter & Contractors Proposal writing is a must, complete with clear & unambiguous qualifications.
10. The successful candidate should have good commercial awareness, be able to satisfy a tender brief while offering innovation and some added Value Engineering options to provide betterment to our tenders over our competitors.
11. The successful candidate would be required to attend both mid-tender and post-tender client meetings to review scope and costings and occasionally be part of more formal tender presentations (as part of a Team).
12. Attend internal staff and Subcontract meetings both pre-contract & post-award to handover to the Contracts Dept.
13. Provide tender logs and follow up via the Main Contractors & End User Clients for feedback on status and report to senior management on a regular basis.
SALARY & PACKAGE
£45,000 - £65,000 per annum (subject to experience)
