Job overview
The post holder will be responsible for leading on the planning, set-up and execution of the Culture of Care programme and other related QI projects as required. This is a project funded by NHS England and delivered by the National Collaborating Centre for Mental Health (NCCMH). The key priorities for this QI are anti-racism, autism-informed and trauma-informed care. The postholder will be supported by and receive supervision from a qualified Consultant Clinical Psychologist.
Using research, service evaluation, audit and QI skills, combined with clinical skills from having worked in an inpatient setting, this postholder will provide comprehensive clinical and project management support to the Lead for the Culture of Care programme and other related QI projects as required. This will include the management and analysis of data and assisting in organising new QI initiatives.
Having experience of working in a busy inpatient setting would help the post holder to deliver upon the required tasks. Supporting fellow inpatient colleagues to both think about and facilitate the changes required and provide excellent service-user care. Being a clinician will bring understanding and compassion to the pressures busy colleagues face and help ground improvement ideas in reality to ensure success and sustainability.
This postholder will spend a significant proportion of their time in clinical areas across the wards in Stockport and Oldham.
Main duties of the job
Communication and relationships:
1. Establish and maintain good working relationships with the project teams and colleagues across the 4 wards taking part in the Culture of Care programme as well as a wide range of corporate teams with the ability to negotiate and influence to ensure engagement with the Culture of Care programme.
2. Spend dedicated time with each of the 4 wards projects teams to ensure the small scale change ideas relate to the 12 commitments of the culture of care programme are subsequently implemented on each of the wards using a PDSA cycle.
3. To communicate complex information relating to the Culture of Care programme. This will include developing and delivering presentations for groups alongside the Clinical Lead.
4. Communicate with the wider Trust about the Culture of Care programme. For example, by contributing to reports, and managing promotional material such as posters and presentations.
5. To promote lived experience and carer involvement in the work of the Culture of Care programme.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Managerial Responsibilities and Service Development:
1. To provide support and clinical guidance to the project teams.
2. To lead on Trust QI initiatives as directed by the Clinical Lead and Inpatient Transformation SRO.
3. To facilitate learning environments for the ward project teams and other learners in conjunction with the Clinical Lead to ensure effective roll out of the Culture of Care programme on the 4 wards taking part.
Clinical:
1. Under the clinical supervision of a qualified Clinical Psychologist, and appropriate to level of knowledge, experience and training.
2. To assist in the psychological assessment of adults with complex mental health needs, using a range of assessment methodologies, including psychometric and neuropsychological tests, self-report measures, direct and indirect structured observations, semi-structured interviews, screening tools and routine outcome measures.
3. To assist in the development of psychological formulation of adults with complex mental health needs to inform individual and/or team intervention.
4. To deliver psychological interventions, through 1:1 and/or group sessions, to adults with complex mental health needs. To assist with group preparation, administrative tasks and evaluations when group interventions are delivered.
5. To assist members of the multi-disciplinary team in implementing psychologically informed interventions.
6. To be involved in writing co-produced care plans with members of the multi-disciplinary teams, service users and carers and to write clinical reports, tailored to a range of audiences, including service users and their carers.
7. To assist the Clinical Psychologists in the delivery of psychological interventions at a systemic level, including psychological consultancy and training to work collaboratively with a range of staff from the multi-disciplinary team and other service providers to assess needs and formulate action plans along directorate care pathways.
8. To attend and contribute as appropriate to multi-disciplinary meetings through verbal and written methods of communication including handover, clinical team meetings and clinical discussion groups.
9. To assist with the encouragement of service user involvement and participation.
Research, Service Evaluation, Audit and QI:
1. To take lead using existing and/or new processes for evaluating clinical discussion groups and to produce posters, and possibly reports, to highlight service user and staff feedback. These will be shared with staff within the care hub and senior managers.
2. To assist in the design and implementation of audit and research projects.
3. To undertake searches of evidence-based literature and research to assist in applying evidence-based practice to the service user group.
4. To undertake data collection, data analysis and the production of reports and summaries using IT and statistical programmes.
Person specification
Education and Qualifications
Essential criteria
* A first or upper second class honours degree in psychology.
* Entitlement to graduate membership of the British Psychological Society.
Desirable criteria
* Further post graduate training in relevant areas of professional psychology, mental health practice and/or research design and analysis.
* Masters in research methodology or similar.
* Project management qualification.
Experience
Essential criteria
* Experience of working with people within an inpatient setting and/or mental health rehabilitation settings.
* Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team.
* Experience of supporting a change initiative, e.g., a quality improvement project/audit/service evaluation etc.
* Previous experience working as an Assistant Psychologist.
Desirable criteria
* Experience of working with complex mental health difficulties.
* Experience of adapting materials to make them accessible for people with cognitive difficulties.
* Experience of service evaluation, audit and research.
* Experience using word processing tools, spreadsheets and statistical packages for data analysis.
* Experience of supporting change in a health/social care setting.
Knowledge
Essential criteria
* Working knowledge of mental health care provision and service delivery.
* Have a good knowledge of psychological theories.
* Working knowledge of improvement or change processes, for example, relating to communication, monitoring, SMART goals etc.
Desirable criteria
* Working knowledge of trauma-informed care.
* Working knowledge of autism and required adaptations to care provision.
