To assist medical personnel in the care of Practice patients to include treatment, preventative care, screening, and patient education.
In keeping with new management and service improvements made across the last year, Woodstock Bower Surgery is looking to recruit a capable, enthusiastic, caring, and committed Practice Nurse.
This is a varied role and will include typical practice nursing duties i.e. Long Term Condition management, wound care, immunisations, cervical screening (cytology), and travel advice.
Experience of practice nursing is preferable but is not essential as training and updates will be facilitated within the role.
Main duties of the job
* Maintain skills and an interest in Diabetes, Asthma, COPD or Coronary Heart Disease, Hypertension, Stroke/TIA, and Contraception.
* Assist in and perform routine tasks related to patient care as directed by senior nurse and GPs.
* Wound care.
* Removal of Sutures.
* ECGs.
* Ear syringing.
* Travel Clinic, to include vaccinations, medications, and advice.
* Childhood immunisations according to British schedule, other routine immunisations i.e. shingles.
* Undertake the collection of pathological specimens including intravenous blood samples, swabs, cervical smears etc. and ensure cleanliness of any equipment used.

Job responsibilities
Provide nursing treatments to patients in participation with general practitioners or independently to agreed protocols.
Provide general and specific health screenings to the Practice patients, including those with long-term conditions (within agreed protocols) with referral to senior Nurse/general practitioners as necessary.

* Assist in and perform routine tasks related to patient care as directed by senior nurse and GPs.
* Wound care.

* Travel Clinic, to include vaccinations, medications, and advice.
* Childhood immunisations according to British schedule, other routine immunisations.
* Undertake the collection of pathological specimens including intravenous blood samples, swabs, cervical smears etc. and ensure cleanliness of any equipment used.
* Perform investigatory procedures requested by the GPs.
* Peak flow readings where needed.
Other tasks will include:
* Maintaining and cleaning equipment used by the nurses and GPs.
* Maintaining Nurses rooms, stocking and rotating items as required.
* Maintain general tidiness and cleanliness of nurses and treatment rooms.
* Assisting with the ordering of vaccinations to maintain stock levels.
* Chaperoning and assisting patients where appropriate who are being examined by another clinician.
* A duty to advise senior nurses of potential problems or errors within the range of assigned tasks.
* Attend and participate in any Practice meetings when required.
* A requirement to undertake home visits.
* Any other delegated duties appropriate to the post.
Student/staff education and training:
Participate in the education and training of students of all disciplines and the induction of all members of Practice staff.
Research projects:
Co-operate and participate as required in any research projects within the Practice.

Qualifications
* Nursing degree or other relevant nursing qualification granting professional license to practice.
* Cytology/cervical screening qualification.
* Venepuncture and electrocardiography.
* Competency/familiarity with chronic disease management i.e. diabetes, asthma, COPD.
