We have a vacancy for an experienced qualified Clinical Coder to join our expanding clinical coding team.
We are passionate about supporting staff with personal development and would have a training plan that aligns to individual needs.
We are looking for someone who is forward thinking, who has experience in coding multiple specialities. Willing to lead and develop trainee staff and support a work programme of clinical engagement.
You must be able to demonstrate expert knowledge in the National Clinical Coding Rules and conventions, along with a good understanding of medical terminology and anatomy.
Main duties of the job
* The post holder's key responsibility is to abstract complex clinical information from the patient's health record on discharge and translate the medical terminology into alpha-numerical codes using the International Classification of Diseases (ICD 10) for diagnoses, and the OPCS Classification of interventions and procedures in compliance with national clinical coding standards and guidelines.
* Participate in the training and mentorship of less experienced coders and assist with problem resolution.
* Day to day mentoring, allocating work to trainees, sharing expert knowledge to achieve maximum coding assurance.
* Participate in the delivery of clinical coding awareness and engagement sessions, including recruitment evenings.
* To liaise with other departments including clinicians, medical secretaries, nursing staff, medical records team, and ward clerk to promote confidence and awareness in clinical coded data.

Job responsibilities
1. Attend and contribute to speciality coding meetings to help resolve issues encountered and improve the quality of coded data.
2. Act as a lead to designated coders to discuss coding issues and to provide advice on clinical documentation.
3. Undertake routine and complex clinical coding using judgement to translate complex cases, whilst achieving high levels of accuracy.
1. Problem solve and action the review of coding process problems to continually improve coding quality and timeliness.
2. Ensure all queries raised by other Trust staff are resolved promptly and effectively, or where appropriate are referred to the Clinical Coding Team Leaders.
3. Accompany where necessary the Coding Auditor to discuss coding issues relevant to areas of expertise.
7. Post holder must have the ability to work as part of a team, as well as independently. This role requires independent working to manage own workload by working on own initiative, as well as taking directives from the managers and team leaders as required.
8. The post holder will be responsible for the mentorship of trainee clinical coders and support less experienced coders through their training and development plan set out by the Team Leaders along with overseeing day to day activities, leading them on the tasks.
9. May be required to deputise for the Team Leaders in training sessions of inexperienced coders.

* Certification of attendance of Coding refresher Course within the last 3 years

* 5 GCSE's A - C including English, Maths, Science or equivalent

* Degree in Health Informatics or related subject

* Extensive knowledge/ background of coding in an acute hospital

* Coding experience in a minimum of 6 specialities.
