Job Summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Specialist Speech and Language Therapist to work within Dorset Combined Youth Justice Service. This role would suit an experienced and confident therapist with an interest in the relationship between SLCN and Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs.
You will be working at a universal, targeted and specialist levels supporting young people who are currently accessing the Youth Justice Service. Part of the role will involve working with children young people at risk of exclusion, their families and schools. You will carry out direct assessment and intervention, develop training packages for other professionals and work collaboratively with colleagues within Youth Justice and the wider professional team to support young people and their families.
You will join a small established multi-disciplinary health team, comprising of SLTs, a Clinical Psychologist and Mental Health nurses, who work within the wider Youth Justice Service to support the physical, social and emotional health needs of young people. You will work with colleagues to contribute to a holistic understanding of a young person's strengths and needs and to formulate a support plan.
You will also be part of the wider team of Speech & Language Therapists working across Dorset to deliver Speech and Language Therapy in close cooperation with other professional colleagues. This role will include the opportunity to contribute to service development and audit.
Main Duties of the Job
1. To provide a high-quality person-centred approach to care delivery which always considers people's safety, privacy, and dignity.
2. To work with children and young people who have experienced trauma, or have social, emotional and/or mental health needs, or present with neurodiversity.
3. To provide specialist care and interventions, assessments, treatments and managing patients on a caseload, as part of the wider multi-disciplinary care team.
4. To provide specialist advice to others regarding the management and care of patients/service users.
5. To devise specialist programmes of care for other professionals to deliver and ensure they are delivered appropriately.
6. To plan, implement and review health improvement programmes in a range of settings.
7. Provide supervision, mentorship, training and clinical support to students and trained practitioners.
This is a fixed term role and for those with current NHS service, the role will be offered on a secondment basis only. Please obtain permission to be released on a secondment before submitting an application.

Person Specification
Knowledge, Skills and Training (Essential)
* Registered practitioner to degree/diploma level supplemented by post registration diploma level specialist training and/or short courses or demonstrable extensive experience in the relevant specialty.
* Evidence of recent professional development in an up to date portfolio.
* Membership of the relevant Professional Body.
Job Specific Experience (Essential)
* Experience at Practitioner Band 5 level.
* Experience of specialist working.
* Evidence of multi-agency working.
* Demonstrable knowledge of assessment and therapeutic interventions in area of specialism.
* Experience of developing specialist programmes of care for an individual or groups of patients/clients and of providing highly specialist advice.
Desirable
* Recent experience in a comparable role.
