To develop the successful applicant from entry level student through to Incorporated Civil Engineer. A staged progressive approach through study to award of Bachelor of Science with honours in Civil Engineering with Industrial Experience to become a Graduate Engineer, then progress to the professional qualification of Incorporated Civil Engineer with ICE/IHT. Attend University for up to four years Graduate Level Apprenticeship to award of Bachelor of Science with honours in Civil Engineering with Industrial Experience. \n\nProgress to Incorporated Engineer through experience and attainment of professional qualifications through the ICE/IHT. \n\nManage work - study balance and overall workload with the support of the work -based mentor and University administrators /lecturers. \n\nShare best practice learned at University with the Design team with the support of the work â based mentor. \n\nProgress postgraduate with the support of the work â based mentor to attain professional qualification Incorporated Engineer with ICE/IHT. \n\nAs successful applicant progresses, they will be expected to: Provide technical advice to Council Services and External agencies as appropriate. Prepare and present reports on project related matters as directed. Where possible, make use of new technologies where they are likely to improve efficiency and quality of service provision. \n\nComply with the relevant requirements of the Health and Safety at Work Act and its associated Regulations, including the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations and the Highland Councilâs Safety Policy. \n\nDevelop projects and programmes in accordance with the Highland Councilâs aims and objectives, including but not limited to; undertaking feasibility studies; civil engineering design; preparation of costs and estimates; tender documents and drawings; the assessment of tenders; contract control; site supervision as instructed. \n\nProcure and supervise land, traffic, structural, geotechnical or contaminated land surveys and assessments of existing structures, services and utilities as directed. Undertake structural inspections as directed, this may involve working at height, in confined spaces and adjacent to watercourses. \n\nPrepare of schemes, briefs in conjunction with clientsâ representatives, specifications and tender documents, risk assessments and repair and remedial work in accordance with the Highland Councilâs aims and objectives. Cost Estimate and Cost Monitoring. \n\nSupervise internal and external contractors. Public consultation to minimise the impact of projects. \n\nComply with the requirements of the Highland Councilâs Quality Assurance Scheme. \n\nComply with the staff development training requirements by undertaking regular reviews and appropriate training when directed. Undertake any other tasks required by the Lead Officer. The postholder will be educated to a minimum of 3 Highers at BCC or above (Subjects: Higher Maths at B, Higher physics and a science/technical/business at Higher C. English at Nat 5 or equivalent). The postholder must meet the minimum entry requirements for access to a graduate apprenticeship degree course in Civil Engineering with a Scottish University or College. The postholder must be computer literate with IT skills in Microsoft Office applications. The postholder must carry out a course of study which will involve workplace guided learning and extensive self-study. Membership of ICE will be required immediately following appointment.
