The Catering department has an exciting opportunity to work as part of the team at the Orchard Restaurant at Good Hope Hospital. Catering Assistants should have a passion for ensuring customers are provided with a friendly, safe and efficient service.
Main Duties of the Job
The work involves preparation, handling and serving of foods across all areas of the Catering department and associated hospital sites. The post holder will require maintaining good food hygiene standards for patients, staff and visitors to the Trust in accordance with individual sites processes.
Responsibilities
1. Prepare and cook food according to a planned menu, using standard recipes at the prescribed times, including the provision of special diets.
2. Exercise portion control following recipes guidelines achieving correct nutritional values.
3. Prepare food to patients when required.
4. Assist in the preparation, weighing and portioning of vegetables.
5. Ensure that the working areas and equipment are kept in a clean, hygienic state and good hygiene practices are observed.
6. Adhere to all assured safe catering practices.
7. Maintain good working relationships with wards and other departmental staff.
8. Report accidents and dangerous occurrences to Senior Supervisor immediately and complete relevant accident forms.
9. Ensure equipment is used and cared for correctly.
10. Report any defects in machinery or materials to the Supervisor.
11. Keep management informed on the state of the kitchen area and suggest improvements.
12. Attend training courses/lectures as required.
13. Ensure Food Hygiene Systems and Working Practices are met, reporting any concerns to the Manager without delay.
14. Report any grievance, disciplinary or welfare matter to the line manager.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* GCSE Equivalent in English and Maths.
* Basic Food Hygiene Certificate or willingness to undertake in the induction period.
* Higher Catering Education.
* Other Education.
Experience
* Health and Safety or willingness to undertake in induction period.
* Food Hygiene Regulations or willingness to undertake in induction period.
* Willingness to undertake specific competencies to meet the full requirements of the role.
* Previous Catering Work Experience.
* Previous Hospital or Care Experience.
* Catering related knowledge.
* Allergy Regulations.
Additional Criteria
* Literate with basic I.T skills.
* Read and understand written documentation.
* Verbally communicate with people.
* Presentable.
* Work in large teams.
* Able to work in hot and cold environments.
* Time keeping.
* Driving License.
