AtkinsRéalis provides drainage design services to Highway, Rail, Private Developer, Energy and Water markets with key clients including HS2, Highways England, and Network Rail, along with many UK water companies. Due to practice expansion, we require a Drainage Design Specialist to join our teams across the UK. We seek a strong collaborator capable of supporting teams and delivering remote projects as part of our national Practice.
The Individual:
The successful candidate will demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of the drainage sector, excellent technical skills, and a proven track record in business development, client management, project management, and line management. You will play a key role in designing drainage infrastructure, transportation, and private developer projects, with emphasis on highway drainage and development drainage including SuDS. Additionally, you will support the leadership and development of our drainage design capabilities.
The ideal candidate should be degree qualified, hold relevant professional qualifications, and have broad experience in:
* Leading drainage design from concept to detailed design and construction, either as standalone projects or within larger multi-disciplinary schemes.
* Promoting digital solutions in drainage design, including full BIM integration.
* Reviewing drainage designs, models, calculations, and drawings to standards, providing technical assurance.
* Managing drainage design tasks, delivery, schedule, and budget.
* Developing and mentoring graduates and technicians in drainage.
* Ensuring compliance with quality, safety, and environmental policies.
* Managing stakeholder relationships to support design and consent processes.
* Enhancing local drainage design capabilities.
* Leading drainage designs and providing technical assurance within our Global Design Centre.
* Championing drainage in multidisciplinary projects.
* Mentoring engineers, graduates, and technicians.
* Contributing to bids with technical input, quality responses, and fee proposals.

Responsibilities:

* Technical: Lead projects to deliver reliable outcomes, undertake Project Director roles, promote best practices, and support staff development.
* Business: Encourage team integration, ensure compliance, develop client relationships, promote digital integration, and support bidding activities.
