This is a fabulous opportunity for a Senior Radiographer with Mammography experience to take the next step in your career.
The service includes the Screening & Symptomatic Service based at Southend University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, with three mobile vans covering the South Essex area. We screen around 25,000 women per year. Across MSE there is symptomatic imaging at Basildon and Screening and Symptomatic Radiographers at Broomfield provided from partners at ESNEFT.
We run three recently refurbished GE Mammography rooms with tomosynthesis capacity and 2 Ultrasound rooms, with dedicated waiting areas for screening and symptomatic.
We have 3 mobile screening units operating across South Essex and recently installed remote digital transfer systems from our vans to the base site.
This is an exciting time to join the team as we introduce Contrast Enhanced Spectral Mammography, alongside our current research audits and training programs.
We support ongoing leadership development and advanced practitioners; the service has supported the national breast fellowship program and has managed to recruit several graduates to support their ongoing career development.
Southend is also located close to two mainlines into London and an International airport, along with the longest pleasure pier in the UK.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Your primary responsibility will be to work as a Deputy Superintendent Mammographer within Southend Hospital and on the Breast Screening mobile units.
2. To supervise the Breast screening imaging staff on a daily basis.
3. To deputise for the Superintendent mammographer in their absence.
4. To be responsible for appraising the radiographic assistants (helpers).
5. To be responsible for the health promotion activities for the unit.
6. To be responsible for the rotation of the staff between mobiles and base unit.
7. To be responsible for the unit QA reports to be sent to the regional QA physicist.
8. To be responsible for ordering supplies.
9. Act as an RPS within the Breast Imaging Service.
10. To provide the mammographic service for the symptomatic and screening service.

1. To communicate effectively with team members on the breast screening service and the symptomatic breast team.
2. To work with the regional QA team to ensure service performance is accurately submitted and actions taken forward.
3. To ensure a professional patient/client and radiographer relationships at all times.
4. To be able to communicate with the medical staff, doctors, consultant surgeons, consultant radiologists, nurses within the unit and the trust.
5. To communicate with the engineers from the equipment providers.
6. To communicate with the clerical staff in both the screening and symptomatic offices.
7. To communicate with the staff from the host mobile site (can be from supermarket stores, local government, swimming pools, doctor surgeries etc).
8. Be able to deal with ‘off the street’ enquiries and answer any related health promotion questions.
9. Have sensitivity to the cultural, physical, and psychological needs of the patient.
10. Provide information for relatives both written and verbal.
