The Post
The Grammar School at Leeds is seeking a dynamic and experienced Head of Drama to lead a thriving department within our Senior School. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the highest standards of teaching and learning, fostering an environment where students achieve excellent academic results and are fully engaged in the co-curricular drama programme. You will provide strategic leadership, managing and developing a team of teachers, and work closely with the Director of Faculty to implement departmental and school-wide initiatives.
As Head of Drama, you will oversee the coordination and delivery of Drama teaching from 11-18, ensuring that all aspects of the curriculum, including GCSE and A-Level courses, meet the highest standards. You will be responsible for setting the direction of the department, supporting colleagues with professional development, and leading on performance reviews. The role involves coordinating departmental resources, managing the departmental budget, and overseeing the extracurricular drama programme, including leading drama productions and liaising with other departments to enhance the overall student experience.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Drama, with excellent subject and pedagogical knowledge. You should have experience teaching Drama across the full age range and a proven ability to lead and motivate a team. A commitment to student welfare and a strong understanding of the co-curricular aspects of school life are essential, as is the ability to manage and develop departmental schemes of work and ensure the integration of innovative teaching practices, including the use of technology. You will be an outstanding classroom practitioner with the ability to inspire and support students and colleagues alike.
