The post holder reports to a Senior Media Officer and is responsible for advising on media and communications, implementing proactive and reactive media plans. The role involves direct contact with operational, policy, stakeholder engagement teams, and senior management, as well as media and police force press offices, including participation in the out-of-hours duty press officer rota. Main Responsibilities Provide a high-quality proactive and reactive media relations service on IOPC investigations, including writing press releases, monitoring media, and managing inaccuracies. Arrange interviews, press conferences, and briefings at short notice. Develop and implement media handling plans for IOPC investigation and corporate reports. Collaborate with Stakeholder Engagement colleagues on communications and engagement plans. Support senior managers on national policy areas such as firearms, custody, stop and search. Contribute to the strategic diary and forward planning for the communications team. Support colleagues across regions to ensure coordinated messaging. Implement IOPC’s social media strategy and engage audiences on various platforms. Participate in the national out-of-hours duty press office rota. Undertake other duties as assigned that are commensurate with the role. The Ideal Candidate Essential Considerable experience in media relations or journalism, especially with controversial issues. High understanding of media priorities and experience in a busy press office or newsroom. Ability to handle sensitive subjects and excellent communication skills. Proven ability to advise senior managers and knowledge of current affairs. Skills and Abilities Ability to build relationships with stakeholders and work as part of a team. Strong customer focus, communication skills, and flexibility. The role requires clearance to BPSS.
