Position Overview
We have an immediate opportunity for a Senior ESG Expert to support a sports/leisure manufacturing business that has recently undergone private equity investment. This senior-level, part-time role will focus on overseeing two major supply chain projects(human rights and conflict minerals) while also developing a long-term ESG strategy, including a governance and reporting framework.
As the business scales under its new investment structure, ESG considerations will be key in both operational decision-making and investor reporting. You will be instrumental in establishing best-in-class ESG processes, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, investor expectations, and industry standards.
Key Responsibilities (to be refined during onboarding)
1. Supply Chain ESG Oversight & Risk Management
* Manage and oversee two major supply chain ESG projects (human rights and conflict minerals), ensuring alignment with industry best practices and regulatory requirements.
* Work closely with external consultants leading these projects to ensure alignment with business priorities.
* Identify and mitigate supply chain risks, ensuring sustainable and responsible sourcing practices.
2. ESG Strategy, Governance & Investor Reporting
* Develop an ESG strategy that aligns with private equity investor expectations, industry regulations, and best practices.
* Establish robust ESG governance structures, integrating ESG into corporate decision-making and risk management.
* Design an ESG reporting framework that meets compliance requirements and aligns with private equity reporting obligations.
* Create a transition plan to embed ESG responsibilities into existing roles or define the scope for hiring a mid-level ESG manager.
3. Stakeholder Engagement & Internal Capacity Building
* Work closely with C-suite executives, procurement teams, and investors to embed ESG strategy into business operations.
* Provide training and guidance to internal teams, ensuring they have the knowledge and tools to manage ongoing ESG responsibilities.
* Support supplier engagement efforts, ensuring ethical sourcing and sustainability principles are upheld.
Role Parameters
* Location: Bridgend (1-2 days per week on-site).
* Commitment: Part-time (2-3 days per week).
* Duration: Temporary/fractional contract (4-6 months).
* Start Date: ASAP.
Qualifications & Experience
Subject Matter Expertise
* 10+ years experience in ESG, supply chain governance, and sustainability leadership, preferably within a private equity-backed business or manufacturing/supply chain-intensive sector.
* Deep understanding of human rights, ethical sourcing, and conflict minerals regulations.
* Knowledge of investor-driven ESG reporting frameworks.
Strategic & Operational ESG Leadership
* Experience developing and implementing ESG governance structures for mid-market companies.
* Ability to balance strategic oversight with hands-on execution, ensuring ESG is effectively integrated into business operations.
Stakeholder & Investor Engagement
* Strong ability to engage and influence senior stakeholders, including C-suite executives, procurement teams, and external consultants.
* Experience working with private equity investors (not essential), ensuring ESG compliance and integration into financial and operational decision-making.
Regulatory & Compliance Knowledge
* Familiarity with global ESG regulatory frameworks.
* Experience developing ESG risk management policies and ensuring compliance with supply chain regulations.
