An exciting opportunity has arisen to be the manager of the Gynaecology Emergency Department at Liverpool Women's Hospital. This is a small but busy department undergoing innovation and transformation. We are looking for an energetic, enthusiastic, and forward-thinking leader of change to bring all staff who work in the department together to run an efficient, effective, and safe service for our patients.
The department sees on average 1400 patients per month, plus on average 300 scans per month with a range of early pregnancy and gynaecology complaints.
Main duties of the job
* Assess patients, plans, implements and evaluates care, carries out nursing procedures, providing advice and maintaining associated records.
* Manages staff, including personal development reviews (PDR), rotas, recruitment, and selection.
* Supervises junior staff and students.
* Promotes positive patient experience, leads local quality initiatives, and explores opportunities for service improvement.
* Holds and manages budget.
* Responsible for leading, encouraging, and directing innovation to promote evidence-based nursing practice within the Emergency Department.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The post holder will:
* Have overall responsibility and accountability for the management of the ward or department, providing a dynamic leadership role within the team. Ensuring at all times that patients and their families are at the centre of the ward/department philosophy.
* Function at experienced nurse level, able to make effective decisions autonomously/independently without supervision and in partnership with patients, families, and the multidisciplinary team.
* Support the Matron and wider members of the Division Management team in achieving the strategic objectives for the Division and the Trust.
* Demonstrate strong leadership and act as a role model for the nursing team, ensuring the delivery of a high standard of evidence-based care to patients and providing support for all staff on the unit.
* Facilitate and support the education of registered and non-registered staff and work in association with, and in support of the matron in defining standards of care and practice aimed at developing and/or improving the quality of patient care.
* Manage and coordinate a ward/department team, working autonomously without supervision, providing professional clinical leadership and responsibility for ensuring an environment of empowerment through coaching, teaching, and facilitation.
* At all times working to ensure the most effective use of all ward resources.
* The post holder may be required to work within any of the division as required.
Person specification
Qualifications and Learning
* Registered General Nurse - NMC
* Professional Knowledge acquired through degree supplemented by specialist clinical and managerial training.
* Recognised Teaching/mentorship qualification
Essential criteria
* Specialist expertise within Gynaecology
* Ability to line manage, delegate and coordinate a service
* Experience of working within an MDT
* Evidence of implementing change
