We are currently recruiting for a Senior Engineer, Product Development to join our Research & Development Team based at our site in Glenrothes. This role reports to the Senior Engineering Manager.
Position Summary:
Undertake and drive improvements in copper data communication cable research, design, development, test and approval activities to ensure a continuous stream of new differentiating network solutions for Leviton.
Essential Functions:
* Work closely with Product Management to help shape the creation copper cable Product Roadmap.
* Identify opportunities for Technology Development to advance copper cable designs and performance.
* Maintain an awareness of industry best practices and research advanced technologies to find most cost-effective solutions.
* Produce new product concepts and validate potential through calculation and analysis.
* Develop concepts into products via prototype build, test and production integration.
* Manage/ undertake copper data communication cable and system approval testing to customer and international standard requirements.
* Produce technical documentation, test reports and both technical/ non-technical presentations.
* Develop existing electrical design tools, test methods, data analysis techniques and report/ presentation structures.
* Own projects and manage through Leviton's Product Development & Introduction (PDI) phase gate process.
* Support problem resolution and lead cost reduction initiatives relevant to existing product ranges.
* Work closely with global Engineering teams and other departments to ensure effective knowledge sharing and transfer of best practices.
* Participate in local, national and international working groups/ standard committees to help drive improvements within the industry.
* Help reinforce a team culture of challenging the status quo and driving continuous improvement.
Additional Responsibilities:
* Support onboarding, mentoring and training of other colleagues.
* Participate in conferences, events, networking and learning opportunities.
Education:
* Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
* Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field is a plus.
* Member of relevant Electrical Engineering institution is a plus.
Experience:
* Designing, developing, testing and implementing new products.
* Understanding of data transmission principles, data cabling and data communications.
* Experience within copper structured cabling, data transmission and data communication is a plus.
* Hands-on use of Electrical design, analysis and test equipment/ tools.
* Experience of signal integrity test methods is a plus.
* Hands-on use of network analysers is essential.
* Statistical analysis tools such as Minitab, JMP, etc. is a plus.
* Leading, managing and successfully delivering technical projects.
Skills:
* Can demonstrate structured logical problem-solving skills and techniques.
* Proven ability to work collaboratively across local departments and global teams.
* Self-motivated to ensure continued self-learning and awareness of industry best practices.
* Proficient in Microsoft Office.
* Use of Six Sigma methodologies and tools is a plus.
* Effective communicator and report writer (to both technical and non-technical audiences).
* Consistent drive with a positive attitude.
* Can demonstrate the ability to prioritise, multitask whilst retaining attention to detail and accuracy.
* Ability to operate in a fast-paced manufacturing and laboratory environment to challenging deadlines.
