Do you have an interest in buildings and sustainability? Are you the kind of person who enjoys dealing with people and organizing things?
This environmental legislation consultancy is a place where you can feel proud to work, knowing that you're helping to ensure that buildings are designed to fulfill the environmental needs for current and future generations.
It’s a friendly team with a mix of ages and backgrounds, and you'll feel supported while learning the job. The senior management team is accessible and encourages ideas and discussions.
There is a fun and sociable working environment, but the team is also highly professional and technically focused.
What You'll Be Doing
BREEAM is the world's leading assessment method for buildings; it's effectively the project management of the environmental aspects of construction. You'll be learning how to carry out these assessments. In time, you'll be managing several of these projects at once.
You’ll be providing sustainability-related advice to clients (for example, architects, engineers, and contractors), including making recommendations where improvements can be made, so assessments will be passed.
You’ll receive regular progress and salary reviews (you could be on 30k in a year).
Training and Development
The business has a very good record of employing graduates, many of whom have gone on to successful careers within the business. Some have moved into more senior roles.
You’ll learn a lot from experienced colleagues and will quickly be given responsibility to manage your own work and time.
There is a big focus on ongoing learning and development. You’ll be doing courses and working towards professional accreditations while improving your range of knowledge.
Going forward, there are other areas you can get involved in (for example, Life Cycle Assessments and Energy Modeling), as the business likes the team to be multi-skilled.
As your skills develop, so will your pay. You should be on 30k within a year or so.
Where You'll Be Doing It
The offices are based in a quirky and interesting building next to Bristol Harbour: a converted Brunel warehouse, powered by PVs.
There is free parking available. If you prefer more sustainable travel, there is a company cycle scheme in place (and shower rooms to freshen up).
Due to the difficulties involved in relocation, you will need to already be within commutable distance of Bristol or specifically looking to move there and easily able to do so due to connections. Within 20 miles or so is acceptable. The business offers flexible, hybrid working, so once you are trained, you should be able to work from home part of the time.
What Will You Need
The graduates who have done well with the business already had some knowledge of and interest in BREEAM. This is preferred, though you don't need to have used it in a job yet.
This role is very much about working with buildings, not the broader environmental field. In terms of degree type, something Construction, Environmental Science, Sustainability, Geography, Architecture, Engineering, or Project Management related would be ideal. However, others will be considered if you have some interest in buildings and construction (for example, a recent graduate who joined the business had always had an interest as her Dad worked in the industry).
You will need strong time management and organizational skills, in addition to good problem-solving skills.
Start date is immediate, but there is also a start date in September.
