Trainee Operations Analyst (viewed 13 times)
Company Name: MI5
Job Location: Belfast
Job Status: Full Time
Job Description:
£39,610, including shift and weekend allowance. Rising to £42,257 after the first year.
Flexible working: shift patterns involving a mix of early, late and night shifts, including weekends. Due to the nature of the work, this is an office-based role.
At MI5, you can build a career doing what matters: stopping threats and preventing harm. It’s a complex yet fascinating task. As a Trainee Operations Analyst, you’ll be joining an experienced and supportive team, who will help you build the skills you need to analyse intelligence and help protect the people, places and communities that matter to you.
So, what makes a good analyst? It’s all about spotting things others miss, asking lots of questions, identifying patterns, and solving puzzles. If you’re naturally curious with a knack for problem-solving, you have just the skills we’re looking for. We’ll train you in all you need to know, and in return, you’ll bring a fresh perspective to unique situations, grow your skills as part of our friendly team, and discover that you’re exactly who we need.
We analyse data and intelligence in real-time 24/7, 365 days a year. As a Trainee Operations Analyst, you’ll work in shifts to identify serious and often hidden threats from the intelligence our teams gather. After an initial three-month training period, you’ll work as an analyst for the next three years. Through dedicated training and exposure to real operations, we’ll teach you everything you need to know and support you as you develop a rewarding career at the heart of our organisation. You’ll learn how to piece together a full picture from incomplete data and provide a rapid response to operational teams working around the clock. Working closely with colleagues across MI5, you’ll use a range of tools and techniques to assess intelligence including audio files, images, and written communications to help with operations in real-time.
The nature of the shifts and the importance of the work means we share a common goal and a real sense of camaraderie. You’ll be part of a supportive, inclusive team that values different perspectives, skills, and identities. Whatever shift you’re doing, whether it’s late at night or early morning, you’ll always be learning and growing your skills while reacting to new, changing situations.
To apply, you’ll need a minimum GCSE grade C/4 in English Language and a full UK driving licence, as well as the ability to drive to our location. We don’t look for a specific ‘type’ of person and we’re not looking for previous experience in analysis. You could be just leaving school or college, looking for a career change, or returning to work after a career break. What you will be is someone who enjoys getting to the root of a problem, with both resilience and patience. And of course, you’ll enjoy working as part of a team and be comfortable working with others and communicating information in a clear, concise manner. As the role involves listening to audio files, there will also be a hearing test as part of the application process.
As your experience grows, you’ll be given greater autonomy to carry out tasks and explore new ways of finding solutions. You’ll also get 25 days’ annual leave (rising to 30 after 5 years) and an excellent pension scheme.
At MI5, diversity and inclusion are critical to our mission. We therefore welcome and encourage applications from everyone, including those from groups that are under-represented in our workforce such as women, those from an ethnic minority background, people with disabilities, and those from low socio-economic backgrounds. Find out more about our culture, working environment, and diversity on our website.
To be eligible to apply, you must be a British Citizen. If you hold dual nationality, of which one component is British, you will nonetheless be considered. Candidates must normally have been resident in the UK for seven out of the last ten years. You can apply at the age of 17 years; if successful, you will not be offered a start date prior to your 18th birthday. Full eligibility details can be found on our website.
