We have an exciting opportunity for a PBS Practitioner to join our Intensive Support Service working across Norfolk and Waveney. You will join our multidisciplinary team which is based with NCHC and HPFT, the team will transfer fully over to HPFT later this year.
The Intensive Support Service (ISS) works intensively with people in the community to prevent admission to acute mental health hospitals.
As a PBS Practitioner you will be responsible for the planning and implementation of Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) plans, care and treatment to service users with complex behavioural challenges and who are active to the Intensive Support Service (ISS).
The aim is to deliver high-quality and innovative plans and interventions to service users with complex needs and behaviours that challenge that are at risk of placement breakdown and potential admission to an acute hospital.
The post holder will be a highly skilled professional who works in a non-aversive, person-centred and therapeutic way. They will lead in the creation of PBS plans, their implementation and support and supervise junior members of the ISS to deliver PBS focused care and treatment to service users open to ISS.
Main duties of the job
1. To ensure that the overall purpose of the PBS delivery within the ISS is carried out to the quality and effectiveness to meet the requirements of the ISS service specification. Ensuring all ISS staff are PBS trained and able to deliver high-quality interventions to service users requiring assessment, care and treatment from the ISS.
2. To triage and prioritise referrals to the ISS to ensure the referral meets the eligibility criteria for access to the ISS. Ensure the referral contains adequate information and needs require input from a specialist ISS.
3. To provide PBS based leadership and direction to the staff within the ISS.

1. To assist with the setting and maintenance of high standards of care and clinical practices within the ISS.
2. To work closely with the senior management team to ensure the continual development of the ISS.
3. To develop a positive and effective liaison with services, agencies and individuals as identified and ensure that any ISS interface problems identified are promptly notified to the relevant team manager.
4. To support and maintain systems for relevant ISS data gathering for auditing and service performance monitoring purposes.
5. To undertake and lead on relevant research and service development activities.
6. To participate in clinical audit to monitor the effectiveness of the ISS and identify any potential learning.
7. To support the development and positive promotion of ISS both with the Trust and externally.
8. Support recruitment of team members with appropriate values and attitudes.
Training & Professional Development
1. To maintain a commitment to learning, professional development and contribute to building a culture of shared learning within the PBSS.
2. To keep abreast with developments in practice and research in the field of PBS.
3. To continue to improve and develop own professional knowledge and skills through attending relevant professional training programmes, professional group discussion forum or meetings.
4. At all times maintain registration with the relevant health body and the UK Society for Behaviour Analysis. Abide by their code of ethics, registration requirements, for example: continuous professional development.
5. To participate in service-based training and development events organised in-house.
6. To liaise actively with colleagues across health and social care team to ensure adequate up-to-date knowledge around PBS practice enhancements.
7. To prepare for and undertake regular professional supervision in line with the Trust and other relevant policies.
8. Review and discuss team members' attitudes regularly and support team members to demonstrate positive attitudes to all individuals who have contact with the ISS. Respond when positive attitudes are not present.
9. Role model dignity, respect, warmth, empathy, compassion in interactions at all times, and monitor this in the team.
10. To undertake own administrative duties, using the organisations network systems.
11. To keep abreast of organisational and other relevant PBS specific protocols, policies and procedures.
12. To provide PBS focused leadership in the development of the ISS and to represent the ISS across the wider NCHC Trust as required.
13. To work with the PBS Network to support ongoing Continual Professional Development for those trained in PBS across Norfolk.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Degree or Diploma in Nursing (RLDN/RGN/RMN), or an Allied Health Professional or Psychology.
* To be registered and maintaining your professional registration with the relevant professional body e.g. NMC, Health and Professions Council etc.
* Masters in Positive Behavioural Support or a Masters in Applied Behavioural Analysis or a Masters in Analysis and Intervention in Intellectual and developmental disabilities.
* Board certified behaviour analyst.
Communication
* Possess excellent communication skills in a variety of mediums, i.e. spoken, written & electronic.
* Highly specialist knowledge of accessible information and the use of non-verbal communication skills to meet individual's needs. Experience of implementing communication strategies that are likely to be included, i.e. visual schedules.
* Able to negotiate constructively and effectively with professionals at all levels.
* Experience of having difficult conversations with providers/stakeholders/individuals and possesses the skills to facilitate these in a constructive manner.
* Competent IT skills that demonstrate the ability to work across multiple electronic systems.
Experience
* Significant experience post-registration and/or experience of working within a learning disability service.
* Highly specialist knowledge of the user group in the learning disabilities agenda.
* Experience of leadership in a health care setting.
* Practical experience of facilitating functional behaviour assessments, developing PBS plans and supporting the implementation of these.
* Experience of multi-professional collaboration, partnership working with other statutory and voluntary agencies.
* Experience of setting, monitoring and evaluating standards of care in community services.
* Experience of working with people with complex comorbidities associated with a learning disability (e.g. mental health and/or complex physical health).
* Able to evidence change practice, culture and outcomes of teams.
* Experience of managing service users who exhibit behaviours that can be challenging and high-risk behaviours, that require advanced PBS interventions to enable effective de-escalation.
* Experience of using creative and sophisticated interventions with service users in distress to enable effective de-escalation.
* Participation in audit.
* Experience of working in a multi-cultural environment and knowledge of methods to develop culturally sensitive practice.

£46,148 to £52,809 a year pro rata per annum.
