Laser Directed Energy Weapons (LDEW) have the potential to radically change the future battlefield. In order to prepare the UK for the accelerated introduction of LDEW, the Defence, Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl) is conducting a large number of research activities. In particular, the outputs from these are used to provide advice to the Ministry of Defence (MOD). Person specification We Are Looking For Someone Who Has Full understanding of Defence Safety regulations/legislation/Standards Safety Case Management and Reporting. Detailed knowledge of Defence Safety and Environmental management systems. Solid experience of UK weapons trials conduct focusing on safety. In depth experience of safety auditing. Safety and Environmental planning Hazard Log Management. Compliance Management. Knowledge of UK Health and Safety Regulations Essential - Practitioner Level Experience Of Safety and Environmental Management Planning. Safety Case / Safety Case Reporting Hazard Logs. Hazard identification and assessment. Fault and Event Tree analysis. Safety Bow-Tie assessment. Risk reduction and generating ALARP statements Operation of safety review panels and working groups. Skills Scientific, Numerical or Engineering background. Experience of low and high power Lasers Understanding of probabilistic risk assessment Evidence of leading large scale multi-disciplined teams. Proactive approach to problem solving with an aptitude to thinking and working innovatively. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Experience Experience of Laser Weapons systems, possibly gained by undertaking activities within an Industrial or Defence environment Knowledge of Safety critical software and modelling standards. Maritime and Land combat systems experience.
