Senior Contract Manager
Location: Western (London through to Penzance)
Contract Type: Permanent
Main Purpose of the Role
The Senior Contract Manager has overall responsibility for the project lifecycle, with a key focus on client management and building client networks. Ensuring full compliance on sites, including health and safety, and environmental requirements. Strong understanding of managing finances and budgets, and promoting an innovative approach to project works. Managing a team of contract managers and planners to ensure high-quality work is being completed and issues are managed effectively.
Roles & Responsibilities
1. Stakeholder Management: Building a client base, creating new client relationships, and growing existing ones to increase workflow. Managing complex client issues and ensuring effective communication between contract managers and clients.
2. Financial Management: Overseeing finances on projects, producing costings, analyzing gaps, and preparing financial reports and budgets. Working with the Commercial Director to monitor costs and forecast expenses. Negotiating with suppliers and field teams to stay within budgets.
3. People Management: Leading and managing a team of Contract Managers and Planning Managers to ensure projects are delegated fairly, managed efficiently, and completed on time. Supporting team development and fostering a collaborative workplace.
4. Talent Management: Mentoring team members, supporting their development, setting objectives, and planning succession to enhance team skills.
5. Project Management: Overseeing multiple projects, producing technical reports for clients and divisions.
6. Compliance, Health and Safety: Ensuring site compliance, monitoring health and safety, managing hazards, and working with HSQE to promote safety and environmental awareness.
7. Business Development: Collaborating with Business Development to price large contracts and support tendering processes.
8. Resourcing: Managing project allocations, utilizing team skills, and sourcing equipment and subcontractors as needed.
9. Asset Management: Sourcing equipment and preparing business cases for new assets.
10. Decision Making: Approving project work, ensuring management within financial constraints.
11. Technologies: Working with IT to improve systems, automate documents, and enhance workplace efficiency.
12. Reporting: Providing regular updates on project progress, finances, compliance, and safety.
13. Project Scope: Managing regional projects exceeding £6m annually.
14. Process Improvement: Continuously reviewing workflows and systems for efficiency.
15. Support Functions: Ensuring support functions adhere to standards and compliance.
16. Accreditations: Maintaining current accreditations and exploring new revenue opportunities.
What We’re Looking For
Essential Knowledge and Skills
* 5+ years in the rail industry or similar.
* 5+ years management experience in a comparable industry.
* Knowledge of arboriculture and/or rail sectors.
* Experience working with diverse stakeholders.
* Full UK driving license – travel required.
* Experience in manual roles within the industry or similar.
Desirable Knowledge and Skills
* Experience in manual roles within the industry or similar.
* Hold COSS and SMSTS qualifications (training provided).
* HSQE qualifications such as NEBOSH, IOSH.
