Sr Regional Manager, Globalization
The Globalization team is key in enabling Expedia Group’s international growth by adapting EG’s products, brands and services across the world, delivering a great experience to both travelers and partners alike, at scale. We are currently looking for an experienced Senior Regional Manager to lead a team of Language Experience Managers and drive the local and regional Globalization strategy in key European markets (such as France, UK, Nordics, Germany) for EG’s products and localized content.
This role will be based in the London (UK) office and will work closely with teams and stakeholders in the whole EMEA region, as well as in the US, Canada, Latin America and Asia Pacific.
What you will do:
* Lead a team of expert Globalization Language Experience Managers in the EMEA region – provide leadership and mentorship, clarity of goals and prioritization, as well as support individuals with career and personal development and growth.
* Develop a strategy for our Language Experience, focused on delivering a great experience to travelers and partners in the region, and impact to the business – taking into account local linguistic and cultural needs and specificities.
* Identify and promote process improvement/simplification across the Globalization function – especially in the areas of automation and new technologies (use of machine translation, GenAI, etc.) - with a view of optimizing efficiency
* Identify recruitment needs, build business cases to support them and hire great talent in the EMEA region
* Develop and monitor your team’s success metrics in the context of delivering a fit-for-purpose localized experience as well as within existing quality management framework
* Develop and maintain strong relationships with other functions within the Globalization team as well as with EG brand stakeholders in the region, and globally - Product, Marketing, Market Management, Global Markets, etc – advocating for our global customers
* Collaborate closely with other Sr Regional Managers in the Globalization team to ensure alignment and strategic consistency across regions.
* Identify, prioritize, develop and promote cross-team initiatives with a view of delivering maximum impact to the EG experience and business globally
* Represent Expedia Group at local and regional industry or company events, as needed
* Travel to other regions to support team members, meet with stakeholders and other Globalization functions as required.
Who you are:
* You have proven experience in the Localization and Globalization industry as a manager / senior people leader:
* 10+ years' experience in the Localization/Globalization industry or global product development in a product and technology company – preferably in B2C
* 7+ years’ experience as a people leader, managing teams of senior professionals, across languages and cultures. Experience of managing remotely or remote employees a plus.
* Degree in Translation/Linguistics/Computational linguistics or equivalent relevant experience in the field of language experience, terminology, writing, translation memory management, and quality management at scale
* Passion for advocating for the localized experience across languages and markets, and representing the voice of the global customer
* General knowledge of Localization and Globalization industry, regional and global trends
* Hands on experience and understanding of new technologies (Generative AI, Machine Translation, LLMs) and how they impact the language experience, but also localization workflows efficiency
* Proven experience of working in a global environment, across continents and time zones
* Strong communication and presentation skills – ability to deliver impactful messages to direct reports, peers, senior leadership
* Ability to work cross-functionally and influence stakeholders at various levels in the organization
* Strong business acumen, experience with building data-informed strategies, focused on prioritizing impact for the global customers and the business
* Regional expertise, fluency in English and proficiency in at least one additional EMEA language required
