Reporting into Manufacturing Engineering in Glasgow, this role is for a Senior Manufacturing Engineer to support fiber laser products designed in Glasgow and manufactured in Penang, Malaysia.
You will be expected to be an experienced, enthusiastic and approachable fiber laser expert with background in both fiber and solid-state laser manufacturing. Your role will involve contributing to the successful transfer and ramp-up of new products in production, as well as taking the lead in solving production issues with established products.
You will work with the Glasgow NPI and Penang Manufacturing teams to introduce new fiber laser products and support Penang's existing fiber laser production.
PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
* Optical alignment of pilot fibre/solid-state laser systems and sub-assemblies.
* Creating and improving build documentation and tooling.
* Training Production staff in Glasgow and Penang.
* Technical support to the Penang Production team both remote and onsite.
* Troubleshooting of laser alignment/manufacturing/splicing issues.
* Troubleshooting of electronic, power supply and other system issues.
* Generation of corrective actions for problems encountered by Production.
* Contribution to cost reduction and reliability initiatives.
* Occasional travel to Penang is required.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
* An engineering or science degree with relevant industrial experience working with fibre lasers.
* Hands-on experience testing and troubleshooting equipment in a production environment.
* Strong understanding of laser physics and the terminology used to characterise laser performance.
PREFERRED ADDITIONAL SKILLS
* Experience using CAD, reading electronic circuit diagrams, building opto-mechanical assemblies or writing scripts for automated measurements would be advantageous.
* Experience using ERP systems would be advantageous.
* Experience in Lean Production is desirable.
* Experience with Industry 4.0 techniques and tooling is desirable.
* Experience with Power BI desirable.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Working conditions typical of a climate controlled and professional office environment, modern mechanical assembly area and class 10K cleanroom both in Glasgow and Penang.
