Role: Mechanical Design Engineer
Salary: up to £40,000 per annum
Hours: Monday – Thursday 8:30am – 5pm, Friday 8:30am – 2:30pm

Taskmaster are delighted to be recruiting for a well-established manufacturing company, with a worldwide reputation and over 80 years of heritage within the industry.
They are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join their team of highly experienced engineers. You will provide mechanical design input within the Engineering design team.
The role:
1. Provide mechanical design input within the Engineering design team.
2. Produce and maintain BOMs corresponding with the mechanical design held within the PDM/PLM and ERP systems.
3. Produce mechanical 3D models and 2D drawings using SolidWorks CAD.
4. Compile and structure BOMs within the company PDM/PLM & ERP systems.
5. Compile documentation in support of the machine CE technical file.
6. Ensure system design & drawings are checked prior to release.
7. Provide feedback and modify or rectify engineering drawings & bill of materials via the change control process.
8. Adhere to customer URS (User Requirement Specifications).
9. Attend production and design meetings as required.
10. Provide support to the shop floor throughout the mechanical build.
11. Work to current health & safety, environmental, quality, industry-specific, and company standards, and keep knowledge of these up to date.
12. Support / Instruct new or less experienced engineers.
13. Provide cover for mechanical design engineers as required.
14. Maintain a safe, clean, and tidy working environment.
15. Maintain a professional, well-presented attitude and appearance at all times.
About you:
1. Experience in using a mechanical design software package, ideally SolidWorks, though other CAD packages will be considered (e.g. AutoCAD Inventor, Pro Engineer, NX, CATIA etc).
2. Worked within an engineering/manufacturing environment and have good knowledge of designing bespoke, automated machinery.
3. Knowledge of designing sheet metal and welded fabrications, and will ideally have working knowledge of the SolidWorks sheet metal tool or understand the process of creating flat pattern developments for manufacturing purposes.
4. Have strong system and equipment integration knowledge and have previously worked in a multi-discipline environment working alongside mechanical/electrical design, controls/automation, and test engineers.
5. Good attention to detail, self-motivated, ability to work under own initiative and complete tasks within given timescales.
6. Can either be degree educated in mechanical engineering or have completed a recognised mechanical apprenticeship and gained a HNC/HND (or similar), along with relevant work experience.
7. Knowledgeable and understanding of CE directives and standards related to the building of bespoke machinery.
8. Previous involvement in producing complex, multilevel bill of materials (BOMs).
9. Good communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly to all levels from shop floor through to senior management.
10. Work to all current health & safety, environmental, quality, industrial specific, and company standards.
Advantageous skills:
* Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
* Design experience in tool, fixture, or component handling.
* Experience of hand calculations and/or structural analysis software (e.g. SolidWorks Simulation).
