Technical Services Supervisor/IT Librarian, Yarmouth Town Libraries (Yarmouth)
The Town of Yarmouth is searching for a Technical Services Supervisor/IT Librarian to join our Library team! Working under the direct supervision of the Library Director, the Technical Services Supervisor/IT Librarian is responsible for overseeing the library’s technology infrastructure and technical services, combining professional, supervisory, administrative, technical and direct service work.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
As a member of the management team, this person plans, develops, and implements system-wide (2 locations) technical services and information technology, manages the selection, ordering, receiving, processing, cataloging of library materials and collection supplies, manages materials budget. Oversees library database including maintenance and withdrawal of items; reviews and reports on system use. Prepares statistical reports. Maintains and troubleshoots library (CLAMS) computers, public computers, and staff computers and devices in collaboration with Town IT. Serves as technical advisor for computer questions for both the Library staff and the public. Assists with the design and maintenance of the Library web page and intranet.
1. Manages all acquisitions and cataloging across departments; contributes to materials selection with Youth Services and Reference Librarians; evaluates the collection for balance and comprehensiveness, for diversity, equity and inclusion; coordinates removal of library materials.
2. Oversees the maintenance of items in all formats in Koha/Aspen ILS environment (preferred), including use of acquisitions module.
3. Manages all technical services, supervising book selection, item processing, repair, e-resource management for desktop, laptop, and mobile devices on PC, MAC, or Userful platforms.
4. Supervises the tracking/receipt and maintenance of materials in all formats, including serials, Large Print, non-print, and e-content.
5. Supervises two part-time staff members and Technical Services volunteers.
6. Specifies, selects, and manages all library computers and electronic devices, including purchasing, setup and updates; has budget responsibilities for technology.
7. Provides instructional guidance on a regular basis to keep staff up-to-date on Library and other computer applications.
8. May create programming including regular book discussions; program focus is typically on topics related to technology and accessibility issues.
9. Provides reports as needed, including assisting with the completion of annual ARIS and State Aid Compliance reporting.
Recommends, enforces, and interprets library policies pertaining to the circulation of materials and use of equipment in the cooperative network environment of the Cape Libraries Automated Materials Sharing (CLAMS).
Participates in promotional efforts; represents the library in the community; develops new avenues for community outreach, and may participate on municipal task forces and committees. Attends local and regional library meetings, conferences and workshops. Performs a variety of professional library activities; stands in for the Library Director if necessary.
Qualifications
• Advanced computer skills; working knowledge of Koha/Aspen ILS preferred, the Userful platform, and other proprietary library applications; high comfort level with Microsoft Office suite, Google Workspace, and LibreOffice.
• Must be detail-oriented and organized, with excellent time management skills.
• Excellent communication skills, both in writing and in person.
• 3-5 years previous cataloging and technical services experience.
• Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited school is preferred.
• Three (3) to five (5) years’ experience in a public library, including supervisory experience preferred, or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Valid Driver’s License; must be able to successfully pass a CORI background check.
Physical requirements include: Light physical effort required in carrying and moving computer equipment, ability to shelve materials, shift collections, and perform other typical library functions. Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, and climbing. Ability to operate a keyboard at an efficient speed. Frequently required to sit and talk or hear, use hands to finger, handle, feel, or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must regularly lift, and/or move materials weighing up to 30 pounds, e.g., bins, books, book carts, and materials. Vision requirements include the ability to read routine documents and use a computer with vision and hearing correctable to normal ranges. Position requires at least one evening per week, and rotating week-end hours, year-round.
