We design and build the services that help people apply for visas or passports; support policing and counter-terrorism operations; and protect the UKs borders. DDaT is building an internal data capability within our Enterprise Services, End User Compute and Collaboration (EUC&C) Team. The team vision is "To empower HO staff by providing an outstanding designed user experience through the right IT products" and is responsible for ensuring that over 60k civil servants and suppliers have the IT tools to do their jobs including laptops, mobile devices, peripherals, print facilities, tooling such as M365, Co-pilot, voice and video service and contact centres. In support of the provision of these products and to inform their roadmaps and backlogs, EUC&C require a thorough understanding of their users and the performance of the products. T he Principal Data Analyst will develop a team and play a pivotal role in defining and developing the strategy and processes which they will implement to collect, organise, study and present data, to provide insight into users and the performance of products. Job description As a Principal Data Analyst, you will have a genuine passion for analytics, you will manage the team of analysts to understand, manipulate and accurately analyse data, presenting to key stakeholders in ways that make the complex data easy to understand, particularly for non-specialist audiences. Your insights will inform product backlogs to improve performance and user experience. You will be a role model to other data analysts and champion adoption of best practice. You will be skilled in communicating with a range of senior stakeholders and influencing their decisions and helping to prioritise and target the most impactful actions to be taken. You will influence the wider Data Analysis landscape, specifically making connections with peers across Government and in industry in order to help make Home Office a leader in Data Analysis. You will actively drive the evolution of Data Analysis in the Home Office by harvesting knowledge and developing ideas. You will lead the development of individuals as well as building the Data Analysis community and capability. You will own and promote our data services and work within the Data Analysis community to ensure best practice and consistency. You will also act as part of a senior management team, inputting to leadership decision making and team management. As a Principal Data Analyst, you will showcase a true passion for data and exhibit expertise in the following areas. Your main day to day responsibilities will be: Setting the strategy for Data Analysis and roll out of data analytics to support the EUC&C, with input from Lead and Senior Data Analysts. Expanding the boundaries of what can be achieved using data, predicting patterns of behaviour and understanding emerging trends and areas of innovation both in government and industry. Leading the management, cleaning, abstraction, and aggregation of data, while overseeing a variety of analytical studies to extract meaningful insights and drive data-driven decision-making. Engaging IT service owners, business process owners, and various service delivery groups to design, deliver, and maintain solutions for the enterprise. Presenting the results of data analysis to a range of senior customers and stakeholders, making recommendations. Developing knowledge of cutting-edge techniques and sharing knowledge of data analysis, building capability across the organisation. Person specification Essential Criteria As a Principal Data Analyst youll have a demonstrable passion for Data Analysis, with the following skills or experience in: Effectively leading and managing a team, helping them to apply a range of techniques to analyse data (e.g. network analysis, data matching, information retrieval, text analytics) sharing insight across EUC&C. Identifying the business value for innovation across departments. Promoting and monitoring continuous professional and personal development within an organisation and team. Interpreting requirements and presenting data in a clear and compelling way, using graphical representations and data visualisations. Identifying areas to increase the efficiency and automation of processes. Presenting complex ideas and recommendations that inform wider decisions in a clear way to technical and non-technical audiences and senior customers.
