Role Overview: As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will be working closely with students with a range of additional needs, including but not limited to learning difficulties, physical disabilities, and autism. This role involves supporting 1:1 but also assisting with personal care tasks to ensure they have the independence and confidence to thrive both in and outside of the classroom. Key Responsibilities: Support students on a 1:1 or small group basis, tailoring approaches to meet individual needs. Assist students with personal care tasks, including toileting, feeding, dressing, and mobility support as required. Work with the classroom teacher to implement specific learning plans and strategies to enhance student engagement and development. Encourage students’ social interaction and independence within the school environment. Monitor student progress and provide feedback to teachers and parents/carers. Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of students at all times, following school policies and safeguarding protocols. Foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment that encourages participation and builds confidence. Essential Requirements: Experience working with children with SEN, either in a school or care setting, along with personal care Patience, empathy, and the ability to build strong relationships with students. A proactive and flexible approach to work, with a strong commitment to student well-being and development. Good communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team. A good understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures. A positive attitude and a willingness to support students in all areas of their school day, including personal care. Desirable Qualifications: A qualification in Childcare, Education, or Special Educational Needs (e.g., Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant qualification). First Aid qualification (or willingness to undertake training). Epilepsy Trained (or willingness to undertake training). Manual Handling (or willingness to undertake training). Medication Administration Qualification Experience in supporting students with specific needs (e.g., Cerebral Palsy, Dystonia, Epilepsy, Tachycardia, Neutropenia, Neuropathic bladder, Anxiety, GORD, Lymphoedema, Arachnoiditis evident on MRI, Feeding and swallowing difficulties requiring nasogastric feeding).
