An inclusive and supportive mainstream primary school in the heart of Christchurch, Hampshire, is currently seeking a dedicated Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) Teaching Assistant. This role demands an individual with experience and a robust understanding of Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) as the TA will be responsible for providing 1:1 support to a Year 2 pupil displaying ASC characteristics.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Provide tailored academic support to an ASC pupil in Year 2, ensuring they can access the curriculum effectively.
2. Employ strategies to assist the pupil in managing dysregulation and support them in finding positive outcomes.
3. Facilitate social inclusion and assist the pupil in navigating social interactions and school routines that are out of their comfort zone.
4. Foster a secure, nurturing, and calm environment that allows the pupil to thrive and feel safe.
5. Collaborate with teachers, the Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO), and parents to create and implement individual education plans (IEPs).
6. Monitor and report on the pupil's progress, highlighting both successes and areas needing further support.
7. Continuously adapt to the pupil's needs by modifying approaches as necessary to support their learning and emotional wellbeing.
8. Manage challenging behavior with patience and implement de-escalation techniques when necessary.
9. Participate in relevant training and professional development activities to enhance skills pertinent to the role.
Qualifications and Skills:
1. Essential experience working with children who have ASC, understanding their unique needs.
2. Demonstrated ability to stay calm and patient, even in challenging situations.
3. A genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs to achieve their full potential.
4. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with staff, pupils, and parents.
5. The capacity to work independently and as an integral part of a team.
6. Commitment to equal opportunity and the ability to engage pupils with diverse backgrounds and abilities.
7. Current DBS check or willingness to obtain one prior to starting the role.
