This is an exciting opportunity for an admin support typist to join the rheumatology admin team at Musgrove Park Hospital.
The successful candidate will be required to provide an efficient and effective typing service for the rheumatology specialist nurses and medical team. The admin support typist will be required to type all clinic letters and general correspondence as dictated by the clinical team in line with agreed timescales. The admin support typist will also be required to provide cross-cover of the medical secretaries as and when required, and a flexible approach will be essential to provide adequate service cover during core hours, particularly in times of absence/leave.
Main duties of the job
1. To type clinic letters and general correspondence as dictated by medical staff using digital dictation and word processing equipment within the business unit service level agreement timescales and standard operating procedures.
2. To provide cross-cover for other admin support typists and medical secretaries as and when required. Flexibility is essential to provide adequate service cover during core hours in times of absence.
3. To answer incoming telephone calls from patients, carers and other healthcare professionals in an efficient manner, in the absence of a medical secretary being available. Taking messages or referring onto other departments and agencies as appropriate.
4. To acquire knowledge of necessary medical terminology.
5. To strictly observe the rules of confidentiality, security and location recording for all patient data.
6. To ensure all medical record documents are scanned and uploaded to EPRO as required.
7. To ensure all post is collected, sorted and distributed accordingly in liaison with the medical secretaries.
8. Use the hospital administration systems for all patient related data.
9. Use of the hospital RTT (Referral to Treatment) to update patient pathways and Order Comms system for patient results/X-Rays (where appropriate).
10. To liaise with the medical secretaries within the business unit regarding all work and to undertake any other duties that may arise from time to time.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* RSA Stage 11 or equivalent qualification in typing.
* Audio typing RSA stage 11 or equivalent.
* Good all-round general education to GCSE standard, including English Language and Maths.
Experience
* Proven competencies in current office practice.
* Use of emails and electronic diaries.
* Experience of working within an office environment.
* Previous NHS experience.
* Knowledge of medical terminology.
