Business Development Manager (Aerospace, Defence & Space) – UK
Location:Hybrid (office in Manchester, Sedgefield, Leeds, Edinburgh or Harwell). Will consider a home-based arrangement for the right candidate.
Reporting: Business Development Director
We are seeking an enthusiastic and driven individual to support business development, sales, and client relationship management in the Aerospace, Defence and Space sectors. The role involves assisting in bid submissions, contributing to negotiations of commercial aspects, and working towards improving the Group’s market position and financial growth through sales generation. The successful candidate will join an experienced team with world-class engineering support, all based in the UK.
Responsibilities:
* Assist in identifying and developing new business opportunities within assigned accounts or territories.
* Support the sales process from lead generation to closure, under the guidance of senior team members.
* Help maintain and grow existing client relationships by identifying upsell opportunities.
* Contribute to the development of sales strategies and plans for assigned accounts or market segments.
* Prepare and deliver presentations on products and services to potential and existing clients.
* Collaborate with technical staff and other internal colleagues to understand and communicate client needs.
* Participate in industry events, such as trade shows and conferences, to gather market intelligence and identify potential leads.
* Assist in the preparation of weekly progress reports and maintain accurate CRM data.
* Support the development of proposals and quotations for clients.
* Stay informed about industry trends and competitor activities to contribute to the company’s competitive positioning.
* Qualify business opportunities by working with internal constituents to determine product, market and IP applications.
Skills/Attributes & Experience:
* 5-10 years of experience in business development or sales within the aerospace, defence, or space sectors.
* Experience selling bespoke RF and Electronic subsystem solutions, preferably where the project value is > £100k to Tier 1,2 Aerospace, Defence and/or Space market.
* Familiarity with custom-designed and manufactured solutions for clients in these industries.
* Basic understanding of RF technology, modems, antennas, and transceivers, particularly in radio communications.
* Knowledge of the OEM market and its dynamics.
* Experience in navigating complex sales cycles associated with technical products and services.
* Technical background, preferably supported by a degree in a related field such as RF Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Optics or Manufacturing.
* Developing network of contacts within the aerospace and defense industries.
* Awareness of current industry trends and technologies in aerospace and defence.
* Strong communication and presentation skills.
* Ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate with various departments.
* Basic negotiation skills and a drive to meet sales targets.
* Familiarity with the UK defence procurement process.
* Ability to quickly grasp new product knowledge and align benefits to a prospect’s needs.
* Degree qualified (or equivalent) in a related field.
* Willingness to travel approximately 20% of the time, with occasional international travel.
* Security clearance would be an advantage, as would a UK passport.
