Pine Media: Network Engineer We’re seeking a motivated Network Engineer to join our growing team. As an entry-level member of our Network Team, you will play a crucial role in monitoring and maintaining our network infrastructure, ensuring optimal performance and reliability. You will work closely with Lead Network & Systems Engineer, gaining hands-on experience while contributing to the stability and scalability of our systems as the business expands. This role offers a dynamic environment with opportunities to learn and grow within a fast-paced company that has numerous projects planned including a core network architectural redesign. Key Responsibilities Fault Escalations: Be a first point of contact for the wider team for fault resolution. Incident Response: Perform initial triage and troubleshooting of network alerts and incidents to minimise downtime and maintain service levels, escalating as necessary for further investigation and resolution. Configuration: Configuration, deployment, and management of network hardware, including switches, routers, firewalls, and cloud infrastructure. Documentation: Maintain up-to-date network documentation, including diagrams, procedures, and records, to ensure accuracy and consistency. Ongoing Maintenance: Provide support to the Network by completing maintenance tasks during maintenance windows, some of which are scheduled overnight to minimise customer impact. Most out of hours maintenance tasks will be carried out remotely; however, an onsite presence may occasionally be required to address specific physical infrastructure needs. Paid as overtime or TOIL. Monitoring: Continuously monitor network and infrastructure performance and system health using various monitoring tools to ensure uptime and reliability. Collaboration: Work with internal teams and external partners to support network-related projects and deployments. Continuous Learning: Participate in training sessions and on-the-job learning to develop technical skills and knowledge in network and platform operations. Additional Responsibilities: There is scope for this individual to take on additional systems infrastructure responsibilities depending on performance and interest. On-Call: One out of every three weeks, the individual will be required to be on call to address critical system issues both onsite and remotely. This responsibility will only begin once the individual is familiar with the relevant technologies, with support provided to ensure they can perform effectively. Additionally, an escalation path will be available for remote assistance. Paid as overtime or TOIL. Requirements The ideal candidate should have a foundational understanding and experience of networking and infrastructure principles and a keen interest in developing the technical expertise listed below. We are looking for individuals who are self-motivated and eager to learn and grow within the role. Essential Skills Education/Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Networking, IT, Systems Engineering, or a related field, or 2 years equivalent practical experience. Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues effectively. Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills for interacting with team members and stakeholders. Team Player: Willingness to collaborate and support team initiatives in a fast-paced environment. Networking Fundamentals: TCP/IP, Layer 2 switching, VLANs, PoE, Wireless, NAT, Firewalls, DHCP, DNS. Hardware & Network Operations: Experience with racking, cabling, and configuring networking and server equipment, ensuring proper deployment and maintenance. Network Vendor Experience: Exposure to network hardware/software from vendors like Mikrotik, Ubiquiti, Cisco, Huawei, Adtran, or Juniper. System Administration: Familiarity with UNIX like systems and basic command-line proficiency. Virtualisation and Cloud: Experience managing virtual machines, including on-premises hypervisors or cloud-based VM environments. Security Awareness: Understanding of basic security concepts and best practices in network and infrastructure management. Backup Infrastructure: Practical experience in configuring scheduled backup systems to capture full system state, application, and file data. Automation: Interest in automation using various tools including Python, Bash, Ansible, or Terraform. Certifications & Licenses Full UK driving license (or working towards). Relevant certifications (e.g., CompTIA Network, Cisco CCNA) are a plus but not required. Growth Areas If you are not familiar with any of these then don’t worry We can provide on the job training to bring you up to speed Networking Knowledge: Intermediate networking knowledge including Authentication (RADIUS), QoS, PPPoE, VPN, BFD, MPLS, QinQ, and routing protocols (e.g. OSPF, BGP). GPON & Fibre Networks: Configuring, deploying, and maintaining GPON infrastructure (OLTs, ONTs) and assisting with troubleshooting fibre faults in data centres. Monitoring Tools: Network monitoring tools such as SNMP, NetFlow, or similar technologies. Infrastructure & Automation: Containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes), CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure automation using tools like Terraform or Ansible. VOIP: Intermediate knowledge of VOIP including SIP Trunking, SBCs, SIP, STUN, Call routing (Queues/Groups/IVRs). Cloud/Distributed Infrastructure : Understanding of PaaS, SaaS, IaaS technologies including Relational Databases (SQL), Serverless Computing, Storage, Networking, Load Balancing, Backup, and Identity and Access Management offerings to deliver the best most cost effective solution to solve business problems. Programming/Scripting : Write automation scripts in Python or Bash. PHP/Laravel experience would also be a big plus if this is something that interest you. Employment Details Type: Full-time (Permanent PAYE). Competitive Salary: £25,000 - £32,500 per year with opportunities for advancement as you grow with the company.
