Role: Senior Project Manager

Mission Systems is transforming, and we need you to support our drive for growth, leading our teams through exciting and sometimes challenging situations. You'll be one of our Senior Project Managers. Working on the Skynet Service Delivery Wrap Contract, you'll play your part in supporting vital military satellite communication systems. Your work will contribute to shaping the future of satellite communication systems within defence. And, with our track record of innovation, you'll continually develop your knowledge and expertise.
As a Senior Project Manager within the Skynet project delivery team, you'll have responsibility for the delivery of a transformation workstream. The Senior Project Manager is financially accountable for the success of the workstream and will therefore need to apply project control and governance to ensure financial success and achievement of contract requirements.
Your responsibilities will include:
1. Overall responsibility for delivery of the workstream to ensure on-time delivery, to cost, and to the required quality standards.
2. Collaborating, informing, and managing all relevant stakeholders, both internal and external, to ensure workstream and project delivery in line with customer requirements and industry standards; including suppliers and sub-contractors.
3. Providing overall operational and strategic management of assigned projects within your workstream/project team, collaborating with relevant professional leads to allocate and control project resources to meet delivery targets.
4. Project management of complex engineering projects ensuring that the delivery teams understand cost, time, and quality requirements and remain coordinated in their approach to delivering agreed scope of work.
5. Developing processes, people, and systems within the workstream as required to complement Mission System strategy, to drive innovation and high-performing team culture. This includes ensuring team training needs are identified as and when they arise, and appropriate training is provided to enhance employee development.
6. Providing end-to-end delivery throughout the project lifecycle, you'll also be responsible for supporting with requirement capture, scoping, technical and commercial solutions, and the generation of pricing models and proposal documents.
7. Ownership of project risk management to ensure that the business' risk exposure is kept to a minimum and is effectively managed throughout the project.
8. Management of the workstream to ensure emerging customer requirements are identified and captured for inclusion in the contract, including such processes as change management and contract change proposals. Ensuring effective change management is applied to projects, balancing flexibility to changing customer requirements with the need for robust commercial agreements.
9. Defining acceptance criteria for contracted deliverables and production of professional handover documentation to ensure timely close-out of milestones and projects as well as technical handover to our operational teams.
10. Ensuring continuous improvement planning and execution is conducted - identifying, reviewing, and applying lessons learned for future requirements.
11. Reviewing and adjusting all aspects of workstream projects on a monthly basis, and presenting management information including regular finance reviews and Project Boards to ensure alignment with customer expectations, effective internal stakeholder management, and stringent financial management.
12. Ensuring that the project team is working to a consistently high standard and that customer and business stakeholders are kept informed.
13. Ensuring adherence to British standard project management methodology, APM, and best practices within the project management profession. With an awareness of the quality standards set out within contracts and obligations set out within ISO9001:2008 and relevant AQAPs.
Person Specification
Applicants are reviewed on a case-by-case basis, but the following will benefit your application:
Experience
* APM PMQ, Chartered status, or equivalent (advantageous).
* Considerable experience in the advanced application of Project Management techniques in a relevant technical project environment.
* Full INCOSE Systems Engineering lifecycle experience.
* Previous experience on complex defence and telecommunication projects/programmes, preferably MilSatCom.
* Experience in leading and managing a team of project staff, providing direction and motivation.
* Experience managing projects with differing demands and deadlines.
* Great financial management to ensure a high level of profitability on projects.
* Experience delivering solutions with a diverse team of both internal resource teams and external supply chains.
* Direct line management experience as well as leadership in a matrix environment.
* Strong commercial awareness and an understanding of contract and commercial management.
* Experience working with senior level managers both internally and externally.
