Job Title: Caretaker
Reports to: Headteacher
Liaises with: Trust Facilities Manager (TFM)
Employment type: Full – Time (Part-time / Job Share will be considered)
52 Weeks per year
37 Hours per week.
Job Purpose: To be responsible for the maintenance and security of the school premises and site, ensuring a safe environment.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1. To ensure that buildings and the site are secure, including during out of school hours, and take remedial action if required.
2. To act as the designated key holder for the school premises.
3. In consultation with the TFM:
1. Operate and regularly check systems such as heating, cooling, lighting and security (including CCTV and alarms) and record the results either in hard copy or electronically.
2. Undertake minor repairs (i.e. those not requiring a qualified craftsperson) and maintenance of the buildings and site.
3. Arrange emergency repairs.
4. Arrange regular maintenance and safety checks.
5. Oversee on-site maintenance contractors, checking that work is completed to required standards and within required timescales.
6. Perform duties in line with health and safety and COSHH regulations and take action where hazards are identified, reporting serious hazards to the TFM and line manager immediately.
7. Undertake regular health & safety / compliance checks of buildings, grounds, fixtures and fittings, (including compliance with fire safety regulations) and equipment, in line with other schedules.
4. To monitor consumables and stock and order supplies as required.
5. To undertake general portage duties, including moving furniture and equipment within the school and support in setting up school events.
6. To ensure the operation and maintenance of specialised equipment following training, for example sports / theatrical equipment.
7. To monitor the work of contract cleaning staff and report shortcomings to the Head.
8. To facilitate lettings and carry out associated tasks, in line with local agreements.
9. To handle small amounts of cash for the purchase of materials to carry out repairs.
RELATIONSHIPS:
Work effectively with a range of stakeholders, exchanging information as required with other staff and external contractors.
Provide high-quality customer service to parents, pupils and other stakeholders, responding in a timely fashion to ad hoc requirements.
WORK CONTEXT:
The postholder will be required to undertake a mixture of indoor and outdoor work across the site.
The nature of the work will require regular physical effort, including bending and stretching, pushing or pulling equipment and moving or lifting furniture.
Most of the work is of a routine nature but will also entail responding to day-to-day events, including undertaking some cleaning and maintenance.
There may be some evening work.
