Project Manager - Commercial/Design
Water Industry
Various UK locations
£60-70K DOE
Our client is a multi-disciplinary consultancy providing a wide range of Asset Management, Engineering, Commercial, Customer Programmes, and Strategic Advisory services to clients across the water, energy, and environment sectors in the UK.
While this role would ideally be commutable to Leeds, Exeter, or Birmingham, we are open on location. There may be occasional client meetings, so some travel will be required.
This role predominantly focuses on the Water industry but may cover wider utilities and infrastructure.
This position acts as the commercial interface between our first-tier clients and design teams. A strong commercial background with some understanding of design is essential.
Key Overview
This role will focus on the commercial aspects of deliverables from the design teams. Some water industry design experience is required, but commercial and project management capabilities within NEC contracts will take precedence.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
Key Responsibilities include:
1. Providing effective leadership to ensure timely delivery of multiple design-based projects to agreed time, quality, and cost parameters, including liaising with and coordinating technical resources to achieve project scope.
2. Managing risks and issues for designated design projects.
3. Leading weekly design progress meetings and documenting outputs for client updates.
4. Contract management duties from contract signature through to invoicing with the finance department, including managing risk registers and compensation event claims.
5. Ensuring IMS (Integrated Management System) compliance for assigned projects, including project audits, governance, and corrective actions.
6. Managing key client projects, coordinating technical resources, and developing scope requirements.
7. Developing internal programmes for project delivery and reporting progress to clients and internally.
8. Creating price quotes for projects and ensuring delivery aligns with agreed budgets and profit parameters, escalating issues as necessary.
9. Providing guidance and support to Engineers/Assistant Project Managers and Technical Directors to support project delivery.
Skills and Experience
Water Industry or wider utilities experience
APMP/AMP PMQ (Project Management Qualification)/PRINCE 2 or equivalent
Contract management of design schemes (lump sum and time and expense)
NEC3/4 accreditation (Desirable)
A background in design management within construction or project management on design projects, with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience
Experience in civil/structural/mechanical/electrical design environments
This role operates in a busy, ever-changing environment, so agility and the ability to prioritize tasks are crucial
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and relevant software is required
Microsoft Project/Gantt chart experience (Desirable)
Project management skills, including organizational skills
Effective communication, report writing, and interpersonal skills
Computer literate with Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project, and other specialist software (SAP, CRM’s, etc)
