To monitor and manage the day to day Mechanical engineering operations of the College estate, including all aspects of breakdown, planned preventative, statutory and legislative maintenance.
To manage minor capital engineering projects and provide professional and technical advice and assistance.
Key Responsibilities:
1. To manage the day-to-day mechanical engineering services of Newcastle College and its satellite sites located in Newcastle, Gateshead and North Tyneside. Services include; heating, ventilation, gas infrastructure, water infrastructure, building management systems, energy management, statutory inspections, pressure systems, AC systems and environmental management.
2. Water Hygiene Management – The post holder will act as the College’s ‘responsible person’ for water safety, management and compliance supported by the Electrical Engineering Manager. Implementation and overseeing of the College’s water safety management plan.
3. To manage and monitor all associated contracts to ensure best value, compliance and quality standards are achieved.
4. Act as project manager on minor capital projects and / or supporting the College Electrical Engineering Manager working on capital projects. This includes defining the project brief, monitoring, reviewing and co-ordinating project design, work on site and programme and, when required, selecting and appointment of consultants. You will also be required to enforce the terms of the contract, processing payments and validating invoices for payment and ensuring that projects meet the needs of the business within agreed timeframes.
5. Manage and appoint contractors, issuing site inductions, permits to work and verifying RAMs.
6. Be part of the Estates Emergency Evacuation Team.
7. To carry out financial management of all delegated areas of budgetary responsibility in line with established Estates procedures. Provide effective reporting to the Head of Estates with regard to the status of plant and any backlog maintenance issues and associated costs.
