Job Title : Cover Supervisor (Ad-hoc) Location : Leicester, Leicestershire, UK Job Type : Ad-hoc, Temporary Start Date : Immediate Job Description: A number of secondary schools in Leicester are looking for a Cover Supervisor to join their teams on an ad-hoc basis. This role is ideal for someone who is proactive, adaptable, and enjoys working with secondary school-aged students. As a Cover Supervisor, you will be responsible for overseeing classes in the absence of the regular teacher, ensuring that students remain engaged, manage their work, and follow the lesson plans provided. This is a flexible opportunity, perfect for individuals looking for part-time or occasional work in education. Key Responsibilities: Supervise Pre-Planned Lessons : Deliver and supervise lessons across a range of subjects, following lesson plans provided by the absent teacher. Classroom Management : Maintain a positive, focused, and orderly classroom environment, ensuring students stay engaged, complete their work, and follow the school’s behavior policies. Student Support : Offer guidance and support to students, helping them stay on task and assisting with any questions or difficulties they may have. Monitor and Report Progress : Track student progress during the lesson and report any issues related to behavior, attendance, or academic concerns to the relevant teacher or leadership team. Ensure Student Well-being : Maintain a safe environment and follow safeguarding protocols to ensure the safety and well-being of all students during lessons. Flexibility and Adaptability : Be available for cover shifts on short notice, with a willingness to work across different subjects and age groups as needed. Administrative Support : Assist with basic administrative tasks such as distributing materials, collecting completed work, and supporting students with group activities. Requirements: Experience working with secondary school students (ages 11-16), preferably in an educational or supervisory role, but not essential. Strong classroom management skills : Ability to maintain control in a classroom and ensure that students remain engaged and productive. Good communication skills : Ability to clearly communicate with both students and staff, ensuring expectations are understood. Organizational skills : Ability to follow lesson plans and manage classroom activities effectively. Proactive and flexible attitude : Willingness to work across different subjects and year groups, adapting to different classroom environments. DBS Check : Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to apply for one). Professionalism : Punctual, reliable, and committed to upholding school policies and values. Desirable Skills: Previous experience as a Cover Supervisor, Teaching Assistant, or in a similar role is an advantage. Interest or specialism in subjects such as Maths, English, Science, or Humanities is beneficial but not essential. Ability to support students with different learning needs or challenging behaviors is desirable. First Aid qualification is a plus but not required.
