SEN Teaching Assistant
We are working in partnership with an inspiring SEMH Secondary School in the London Borough of Greenwich who are looking for SEN Teaching Assistants to join their dedicated team. You will be supporting the learning and development of students who have received a diagnosis of SEMH and other associated needs.
The school offers tailor-made pathways for students who have found mainstream education difficult and believes that this is not an obstacle to those students having the opportunity to return, either to a mainstream secondary school or further education. The curriculum offers both academic and vocational options dependent on each student's needs.
For staff, they also offer their own de-escalation training (as well as other training and career development opportunities) and there are teacher training options available for those who wish to take that path.
Requirements of a SEN Teaching Assistant
* Experience with challenging behaviour; this role would really suit someone who has worked in a PRU or SEMH school, has worked as a Pastoral Officer in a school, or has experience with challenging behaviour as a Youth Worker.
* Experience working to support pupils with physically and emotionally challenging behaviour.
* A resilient personality and an ability to build rapport quickly with staff and students.
* De-escalation training would be a bonus for this role; however, the school does also provide their own specialised de-escalation training.
* An interest in mental health and seeing behaviour as a form of communication is essential for this role.
