REQ5222
Job Specification
Role: Engineering Associate
Period: 18 Months-24 Months
Reporting to: Director of Product Development Open Date Equipment Ltd
Salary: Between £20,000pa and £30,000pa pro-rata
Background
Open Date Equipment (ODE) has worked with London South Bank University on two Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) projects. A KTP is a UK government programme to increase the share of knowledge between universities and industry partners. In the last project, London South Bank University and Open Date were engaged in a KTP to develop a specialised continuous thermal transfer production printer.
The aim of the KTP was to complete the continuous printer design with access to company resources and support from academics. This is an exciting opportunity for a mechanical, electrical, or electromechanical engineer. This project will enable them to demonstrate independent working, innovative thinking, and commercial awareness.
ODE has now decided to offer the opportunity directly, outside of the framework of the KTP projects. This will provide a more direct commercial application while still presenting the necessary technical challenge, knowledge gain, and application skills.
Project Outline
Open Date, a leader in the field of specialised thermal transfer printing equipment for the pharmaceutical, food packaging, and similar industries, seeks to select a suitably qualified individual to be the Engineering Associate, who will lead the project activity aimed at developing a new printer to meet the increasing challenges faced in its market sector.
The associate will work on electro-mechanical systems incorporated into Open Date products by refining existing technology and combining this with an innovative approach to advance the company’s product line and the state of the art.
The ideal candidate will be a recent graduate in Electromechanical, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, including postgraduate studies, and will have a general awareness of mechanical devices along with a keen interest in electronics and electrical controls. Candidates must be prepared to familiarise themselves with the company’s products, key design elements, and their application.
The position is full time and located at the company’s Salford UK offices, with release to attend training, personal development, and meetings as required. Employment hours, working conditions, and holiday entitlement will align with Open Date Equipment employees.
