Owned by the Italian Frandino Group and originally founded in the 1950s as a fruit distillery, Sedamyl has grown to become one of Europe’s leading manufacturers of wheat derivatives such as starches, sweeteners, proteins and alcohol for major food and industrial sectors worldwide. In 2012 the group expanded its international presence by opening a plant in Selby, UK.
What we are looking for
We are looking for an experienced Head of HSE to join our growing manufacturing site in Selby. Reporting directly to our UK Managing Director, the primary responsibility for this role is to manage and improve the health, safety and environmental performance across the entire site, in line with our Group HSE strategy.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
Health & Safety
1. Principal responsibility is to drive and improve the H&S performance in the UK, whilst working collaboratively with the Sedamyl HSE Team in Saluzzo, Italy
2. Manage and lead a team of H&S practitioners on site
3. Identify and assess risks on site and develop plans to mitigate and eliminate those risks.
4. Take ownership for all incident investigations, corrective actions and preventative measures
5. Administer and manage the Incident Reporting System
6. Manage an H&S actions database ensuring all actions are appropriate and completed in a timely manner.
7. Ensure full compliance with all relevant HSE regulations
8. Support the site to build a risk-aware, safety-first culture
9. Create an annual HSE plan, training employees and managers on updated procedures
10. Aim for a 100% safety record across entire site
11. Champion the H&S agenda through proactive communication and influencing
Environment
1. Drive a continuous improvement culture in Sedamyl’s environmental performance so reducing our carbon footprint and greenhouse gas emissions.
2. Establish an appropriate environmental strategy in the UK in line with the wider HSE vision.
3. Ensure Sedamyl complies with all environmental legislation
Qualifications/Technical Knowledge
* Graduate in a technical subject, preferably in H&S or Engineering
* A graduate member of IoSH (or above)
* NEBOSH diploma or equivalent
* 5 years plus experience of managing H&S within complex manufacturing organisations
* Successful track record of delivery in a range of HSE initiatives
Skills
* Excellent up-to-date knowledge of HSE law and practice
* Strong systems background, competency using all MS Office applications
* Highly numerate with an organised, analytical mind.
* Ability to summarise and present findings and suggestions in a structured, coherent and professional manner
* Ability and willingness to simultaneously complete both hands-on and strategic work
