We are looking for a dedicated, motivated and enthusiastic registered nurse to join our colorectal cancer nursing team. The successful candidate will work with our established nursing team and wider MDT in supporting patients with colorectal cancer throughout their treatment, providing individualised and compassionate care.
This is a challenging role that requires a self-motivated and dedicated individual. Support will be provided using the ACCEND framework and core cancer capabilities in practice and formal educational opportunities could be available.
Main duties of the job
As a key member of the Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, you will be joining an exceptional team working together to help our patients to stay healthy, when they need it most.
Job responsibilities
* The Colorectal CNS will work with the dedicated multi-disciplinary teams within the Trust. This will include having active involvement in the referral, investigations, treatment and follow-up of patients with colorectal cancer.
* To support with the delivery of the Colorectal Health and wellbeing and best supportive care clinics.
* Complete holistic needs assessments, formulating care plans and referring to the appropriate services in the hospital or the community.
* Wherever possible attend Colorectal / Oncology clinics and endoscopy to support cancer patients at initial diagnosis, treatment and follow-up.
* The CNS will be required to break bad news to patients and their family about their diagnosis with sensitivity and empathy.
* Discuss aspects of treatment for Colorectal cancer in depth with sensitivity, knowledge and expertise. Act as patient advocate where appropriate.
* Works as a member of the Colorectal Specialist team contributing to the delivery of Colorectal specialist service for patients throughout their cancer pathway.
* Liaise with members of the specialist team and has well developed advanced communication skills.
* Assesses patients, plans and implements care, provides specialist advice maintains records.
* Carries out specialist nursing procedures.
* Provides clinical supervision to other staff/students.
* Leads clinical audits within the Colorectal specialist area and assists with the formulation of evidenced based protocols of care in conjunction with the Lead Colorectal Nurse.
* Co-present Health and Wellbeing clinics for colorectal cancer patients.
* Participate in nurse led best supportive care clinics for palliative colorectal cancer patients.
Working Pattern: 37.5 hours per week. Working days to be confirmed. Hours worked over 4 days per week. No weekends/bank holidays.
