Job Description
This is a 12-month maternity cover contract to lead on building positive and meaningful relationships with local communities to deliver positive outcomes for Heathrow's neighbouring communities and support business priorities.
You will be responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating engagement plans ensuring that the business has a detailed understanding of what is important to our most local communities. You will manage and develop productive and effective relationships with residents, community groups and other local stakeholders, and take the lead on resolving issues and helping to protect and enhance the airport's reputation.
Building your internal network, you will collaborate across a variety of Heathrow teams to support issue resolution and provide strategic input into various Heathrow plans and programmes. You will bring your detailed knowledge and understanding of the community engagement landscape to ensure that Heathrow teams can make informed decisions which may impact the local areas. Communicating and engaging with community stakeholders through a variety of touch points, you will lead the community engagement team to be the face of Heathrow in local communities, demonstrating Heathrow's commitment to being a good neighbour.
Responsibilities
1. Responsibility for building a strong network in the local community, enabling the engagement team to be the "voice of the business in the community and the voice of the community in the business," in order to influence business decisions.
2. Leading on developing and implementing community engagement plans and strategies that promote constructive dialogue between the airport and its neighbours, as well as diversity and inclusion and reflects the makeup of Heathrow's local communities.
3. Leading a proactive and regular programme of engagement activities to support Heathrow's relationships with community stakeholders, ensuring that neighbouring communities are informed and engaged with Heathrow's plans and day-to-day operations as well as protecting and enhancing Heathrow's reputation.
4. Developing, maintaining and sharing an in-depth knowledge of the communities neighbouring the airport, identifying their key issues, ensuring that our engagement plans take account of their needs and that communities' feedback is captured and shared internally.
5. Managing the operational delivery of the Community Relations helpdesk, managing its day-to-day effectiveness, working closely with other teams to ensure we provide first class customer service at all times, and overseeing the external consultants responsible.
6. Overseeing Heathrow's Local Liaison Groups and the Local Community Forum (LCF), supporting the effectiveness of these channels and providing secretariat support to the independent chair such as setting agendas, securing speakers, organising meeting dates and writing minutes etc. to ensure positive engagement between communities and Heathrow.
7. Being the spokesperson for Heathrow at stakeholder meetings and forums to talk confidently and knowledgeably about Heathrow's impacts and key community issues.
Qualifications
1. Graduate and/or post graduate qualification preferably in a community development/engagement/communications/marketing field
2. Detailed knowledge and understanding of the community engagement landscape
3. Significant experience of working in a community engagement role with communities affected by major infrastructure programmes
4. Strong capability and experience of building and maintaining relationships with a network of challenging stakeholders
5. Competent in building internal and external relationships and experience of providing high level communications advice and briefings to senior colleagues
6. High levels of sensitivity and judgement and the ability to influence outcomes effectively by having the confidence and credibility to constructively challenge colleagues in the interest of protecting Heathrow's reputation within in the local community
7. Demonstrable experience and evidence of a collaborative approach and team working within a large matrix organisation
8. Experience of measuring the effectiveness of community engagement and communications activities
9. Exceptional attention to detail, and first class written and verbal communication skills
