PHYSIOTHERAPY ASSISTANT (BAND 3) MSK
37.5 HOURS PER WEEK
We are looking for a caring and committed individual to become part of our Physiotherapy MSK Out Patient Team. This is a fundamental role within our service, and in order to fulfill it, you must be a team player who is enthusiastic and dedicated to delivering high quality treatment to patients in an out-patient setting.
Although this post is at Clitheroe Community Hospital you may be required to work at any clinical area within the East Lancs Hospital Trust IMPReS Service according to service need.
The work is varied and you will provide general assistance to physiotherapists in the outpatient department. You will support work to aid the clinical management and rehabilitation of patients and carry your own case load with supervision.
You will maintain an orderly environment that meets all infection control and governance standards, and lead the department's compliance with trust infection control policies, including housekeeping, cleaning, tidying, maintenance of equipment and stock control.
This role may include some administration duties including on reception, electronic patient record keeping, organizing appointments, registration of patient details, data collection and audit information.
You must be able to understand and comply with detailed procedures and instructions and possess good communication skills, verbal, written and electronic. Flexibility, good time management skills, organisational skills and self-motivation are also essential.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:
Clinical
1. Assist the Physiotherapist in the rehabilitation of patients using a range of delegated activities, exercises and manual physical therapy treatments.
2. Ensure the working environment meets all infection control and health and safety regulations by providing housekeeping duties.
3. Provide and fit equipment as requested by the Physiotherapists.
4. Treat patients individually, or in a group, in a variety of settings.
5. Instruct patients and carers, providing direction and guidance on a range of physical therapy including mobility activities, as directed by the physiotherapist.
6. Encourage patients and their carers in an active approach to regaining and maintaining personal independence.
7. Assist in the mobility and transfer of patients who may be heavy on occasions (the Trust operates a minimal lift policy).
8. Use effective communication tools, verbal and non-verbal to communicate treatment programmes to patients who may have barriers to understanding or communication.
9. Liaise with the physiotherapist as necessary regarding patient care, ensuring variations to expected outcomes are highlighted from treatment programmes you deliver.
10. Make accurate records of work undertaken and keep monthly statistics as required.
11. Undertake reception and clerical duties as requested.
12. Attend and actively participate in In-Service training as required.
13. Assist in the training of newly appointed Assistant Practitioners/Therapy assistants.
14. Contribute to development of patient care by attending relevant team, departmental or other appropriate meetings.
15. Collate and enter statistical data onto the departmental database.
Organisational
1. Maintain a neat and orderly department to ensure the environment is conducive to patient care.
2. Be responsible for the safe use of therapy equipment and aids by patients.
3. Manage and prioritise own patient caseload delegated by the Physiotherapist.
4. Take part in the individual Trust appraisal and performance review programme.
5. Actively participate in own staff development and review.
6. Be responsible for reporting faults within the area of work.
7. Maintain and monitor accurate records of loaned equipment.
8. Monitor and develop own performance, aiming to achieve and maintain a high standard.
9. Be responsible for ensuring departmental stock requirements are maintained.
10. Be responsible for weekly laundry requirements.
11. Be responsible for the administrative arrangements for organising visits, booking rooms and ordering equipment.
12. Proactively participate within the Clinical Governance and Risk Management.
Effort
1. Carry out patient treatment with frequent moderate physical effort on a daily basis.
2. Comply with the Trust Manual Handling Policy and local therapeutic handling guidance at all times.
3. Deal sensitively with patients who have high levels of anxiety and aggression.
4. The job involves occasional exposure to highly unpleasant working conditions.
5. Works alone on a daily basis in varied community settings.
6. Involves frequent daily exposure to driving with prolonged concentration in unfamiliar surroundings.
TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT
1. Undertake to attend relevant training courses internal and external.
2. Take responsibility for pursuing own development in accordance with an agreed Personal Development Plan.
3. Assist in the training/mentoring of other members of staff.
4. Attend all mandatory training and update sessions.
5. Comply with all Trust policies and departmental procedures.
HEALTH AND SAFETY
1. Comply with safety instructions/policies laid down by the Trust.
2. Use equipment and facilities provided safely.
3. Refrain from willful misuse or interference with anything provided in the interests of Health and Safety.
