Job Summary
We are looking to recruit a haematology dietitian to join the team based in the Oncology Department of Derriford Hospital. The post-holder will be expected to manage their own caseload in both inpatient and outpatient settings, supervise the work of dietetic assistants, students, and junior dieticians as appropriate, and contribute to resource management. You will be supported by a friendly team and have the opportunity to develop your skills.
Main Duties of the Job
1. To be responsible for the provision of an effective and efficient Nutrition and Dietetic service for haematology inpatients and outpatients.
2. To be a source of expertise in the dietetic management of palliative cancer patients including lung and upper GI/HPB patients within the Trust.
3. To provide expert nutritional advice and support to patients with cancer and their families/carers, working as part of a multidisciplinary team.
4. To contribute to the delivery of a Trust-wide dietetic service.
Job Responsibilities
1. To manage own clinical caseload effectively with regards to clinical priority and effective use of time.
2. To work with other oncology dietitians to provide dietetic care to oncology and haematology inpatients and outpatients referred by Oncology Services.
3. To provide regular outpatient dietetic services to patients undergoing treatment including radiotherapy and chemotherapy.
4. To attend ward rounds and clinical team meetings as appropriate.
5. To communicate effectively with patients and carers to maximize condition management, recovery potential, and disease prevention.
Person Specification
Knowledge and Experience Essential:
* 2-3 years demonstrable experience in clinical dietetics within the NHS post-registration.
* Proven knowledge of oncology and haematology dietetics and nutrition support.
* Demonstrable experience of working in a multidisciplinary team.
Qualifications Essential:
* BSc. in Human Nutrition and Dietetics or equivalent.
* Professional registration (HPC).
Aptitude and Abilities Essential:
* Effective communication skills with all levels of healthcare personnel.
* Able to work within a team.
